Some of the most recognisable faces in poker and other stars have $500 bounties on their heads, and they’re on offer to partypoker players in the Shooting Stars for Charity tournament. As part of the inaugural WPT® World Online Championships, a series being held on partypoker, Shooting Stars for Charity will be held across two days, from Wednesday, July 29, 2020, to Thursday, July 30, 2020. The minimum guarantee for the tournament will be $500,000 and there will be a minimum $50,000 charity donation from the prize pool.

Players can buy-in to the action for $1,100, with $100 from each buy-in being donated to 1Day Sooner, a charity that advocates on behalf of human trial challenges to speed up the development of a COVID-19 vaccine. “We are very grateful for the generosity from partypoker and the players,” said Abie Rohrig, Communications Director at 1DaySooner. “We are confident that the donations will go a long way toward getting us a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible.”

If someone knocks out a Shooting Star player, they will win a $500 bounty. The Shooting Star players include: Team partypoker ambassador Sam Trickett; Igor Kurganov, who has won 11 career titles; Aylar Lie, winner of six live poker titles and also known for being an actress and model; Ryan Riess, champion of the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker in 2017; Steffen Sontheimer, winner of the $250,000 partypoker LIVE Super High Roller Championships in 2018; and Argentinian rapper Alejandro ‘Papo MC’ Lococo, who moonlights as a poker player.

Kurganov has kindly pledged to donate 100% of any winnings he makes from the tournament to 1Day Sooner.

Stars Looking Forward To Raising Plenty of Money

Trickett said: “I’m delighted the WPT and partypoker have come together to help make a difference in these difficult times, while also offering players the opportunity to win plenty in cash prizes.
“I’m looking forward to giving players the chance to take my bounty, and if you think you can beat me, come and give it a go!”

Lie said: “I am honoured to be a part of Shooting Stars for Charity. Players get to have fun playing poker and we can help in the fight against COVID-19, so it’s win-win.”

Joining the high-profile names from the world of poker will be former Manchester United footballers Darren Fletcher and Wes Brown. Both players won several major trophies, including the Premier League title, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup, while Fletcher made 80 appearances for Scotland and Brown made 23 appearances for England.

Players can qualify for the tournament at partypoker.com. Satellites to the tournament will be announced in due course.

Additionally, the WPT World Online Championships is giving the poker industry the chance to come together and make a difference. The schedule will also include the Poker Industry Invitational on Friday, July 17, offering a guarantee of $30,000 and a chance for the top three finishers to win a seat in Shooting Stars for Charity. These seats will be worth $3,000, so there is a minimum extra 10% value for players to play with that added money.

Players can enter for a $320 buy-in, with $20 of each buy-in donated to 1DaySooner. The event is being held exclusively for poker industry professionals, who can go head-to-head against their industry peers and win bragging rights over the industry on top of cash prizes. Players can apply to enter via partypokerlive.com.

The WPT World Online Championships, designed to replicate an authentic live poker experience, will run from Friday, July 17, to Tuesday, September 8, paying out a minimum guarantee of $100,000,000.
