Day 1A of the $1 million guaranteed World Cup of Cards Main Event took place on June 27 and saw 354 players buy in before late registration slammed shut. Only 53 of those 354 starters punched their Day 2 tickets at the first attempt, and nobody accumulated more chips than the United Kingdom-based German Christoph Vogelsang.

Vogelsang shone the brightest on Day 1A of the $1,100 buy-in Main Event. The talented German has more than $25 million in live poker tournament earnings, and it is easy to see why. He sat down with 200,000 chips and finished the opening flight with a tournament-leading stack of 3,363,472. There is still a long way to go, with another three flights on the schedule, but Vogelsang has done his chances of glory no harm at all.

Two other players came close to matching Vogelsang’s impressive chip stack, but ultimately fell a little short. Brazilian sensations Rodrigo Selouan and Thiago Crema bagged up 3,248,223 and 3,235,609 chips respectively.

Just below Crema with a stack of 2,631,652 is the inaugural MILLIONS Online champion Jon Van Fleet. The man known as “apestyles” is definitely one player to watch when Day 2 commenced on July 5 at 20:05 BST.

Plenty of other stellar, household names progressed to Day 2 from the opening flight. Peter Chien (2,056,575), David Coleman (1,811,888), Brandon Adams (1,709,695), Bruno Volkmann (1,332,153), Sylvain Loosli (525,411), and reigning MILLIONS Online champion Endrit Geci (518,396) among them.

Ten Mega Satellite Winners Progress to Day 2

The first WCC Main Event Mega Satellite also ran on June 27 and awarded 50x $1,100 seats to Day 1A. Ten of the 50 who secured seats made it through to Day 2.

James Whittet (2,386,653), Armin Rezaei (2,214,071), and Charles Whitehouse (2,145,697) not only navigated their way to Day 2 but did so with top ten stacks! Here are the other Mega Satellite winners who have turned no more than $215 into at least a WCC Main Event min-cash.

  • Armin Rezaei – 2,214,071
  • Charles Whitehouse – 2,145,697
