Some 209 players turned out for the $5,300 buy-in Devilfish Cup, ensuring the $1 million guarantee was hit. Each and every one of the $300 tournament fees were donated to charity, meaning the players raised more than $62,000 for good causes.
Plenty of Team partypoker players were among those who started with high hopes of becoming the tournament’s champion, but who ultimately busted before the money. These included Bruno Fitoussi. Four-time boxing world champion Carl Froch, our boss Tom Waters, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Charlie Godwin, Roberto Romanello, Ludovic Geilich, Padraig Parkinson, Sam Trickett, and Marcel Luske.
Money Bubble Bursts
Luske busted in 27th place with 23 places paid. At least “The Flying Dutchman” didn’t burst the money bubble, that dubious honour went to Daniel Wilson who was the last player to leave the tournament floor empty-handed.
Several established, big-name pros secured some prize money. These included partypoker LIVE President John Duthie, Jack Salter, reigning WSOP Europe Main Event champion Jack Sinclair, Jake Cody, and Kahle Burns, the latter busting in ninth-place to set the official final table.
Dominic Cullen was the first player to bust from the final table, his eighth-place finish yielding a $26,000 prize. Cullen was joined on the rail by online superstar Scott Margereson and then Dusk Till Dawn’s Simon Trumper. This duo banked $33,000 and $43,000 respectively.
Tom Hall followed Trumper to the cashier’s desk to collect $58,000 after falling in fifth-place before Jack Sandford crashed out in fourth for an $80,000 addition to his bankroll.
First Six-Figure Prize Awarded
Third-place and $115,150 went to Austria’s Fabian Gumz, which set up a heads-up battle Trigg and Paul Siddle. The last standing duo struck a deal that locked up $200,000 for each of them and left an additional $50,000 for the champion.
That champion turned out to be Trigg after Siddle pushed all-in with on the
