It was a celebration of British Poker at the British Poker Awards. And a fitting time to celebrate. Brits set a record for non-American bracelets at the WSOP by taking home five bracelets plus untold more cashes.
Trickett, Cody, Lewis, Dempsey, Boeree and Mitchell have joined the ranks of the arrived UK stars like Akenhead, Ashby, Bansi, and Channing. I could go on.
If only they could get some recognition in the nominations for British Sportsman of the Year. I’m not talking crazy. There is no field of games or sport that the UK is pwning right now like poker.
Just like that the busy London Poker Festival calendar moves from one thing to another. I had no sooner gotten to enjoy my days and nights at the Palm Beach Casino in Mayfair when the venue has switched to the Empire in Leicester Square.

Well, no worries. Check out the collection. Anyone got a couple hundred thousand dollars to spend?
Everyone was buzzing about the World Series of Poker Europe kicking off this week at the Empire casino. The venue might be crowded and qualifiers might be non-existent, but forget about these being easy bracelets to win. Only the crème de la double cream of poker will be fighting these out, making the 2010 WSOPE events among the toughest fields of the year.
A bunch of people were targeting the ten thousand pound heads-up event as one with a short field, but I’ve heard different. It appears that all the Vegas big money men, still worried about their prop bets with Dwan, will be filling up that event with gusto as a defensive measurement to make it as hard as possible for Durrrr to grab a bracelet. He’s still got many millions of live possibilities there.
