The 2021 WPT Online Series got off to a flying start on May 14 after the WPT #00 Pro Hunt obliterated its $30,000 guarantee. Some 1,788 players bought in for $33, resulting in a $53,640 prize pool, which had more than $6,000 worth of prizes added to the pot.
Eighteen members of Team partypoker and our streamers took to the tables with a special bounty on their heads. Busting any of them resulted in a mystery prize hitting the player’s account, ranging from a $33 ticket to a $320 WPT Online Series Mini Main Event seat. The eventual winner, however, secured the top prize, the juiciest bounty payment, plus a $3,200 seat to the $3 million guaranteed WPT Online Series Main Event.
Douglas Souza was the recipient of that potentially life-changing free prize. Souza, who hails from Brazil, was streaming his play on our Brazilian Twitch channel when he took down the Pro Hunt event!
Blinds were 1,000,000/2,000,000/250,000a and Souza raised to 4,200,000 with 
Ihor Mochalov three-bet all-in for 45,501,052 with 
, and Souza called. It was a massive coinflip that went Souza’s way. The 
flop was safe for Souza’s pocket fives, as was the 
turn. The 
completed the board, and confirmed the Brazilian hero was now a WPT Online Series champion!

Huge Opener Events Kick Off
May 14 saw the $500,000 guaranteed Opener, $250,000 guaranteed Mini Opener, and the $50,000 guaranteed Micro Opener get underway.
Day 1A of the $1,050 buy-on Opener saw 75 players buy in and only 10 of those punch their Day 2 tickets. Ioannis Angelou Konstas finished Day 1A of this tournament with an overwhelming chip lead. The former partypoker LIVE MILLIONS UK Main Event champion finished his flight with 2,261,718 chips, more than double the 1,066,849 in the stack of Diego Cuellar, who won the POWERFEST Main Event less than a month ago.
There were larger crowds for the $109 Mini Opener and $11 Micro Opener.
A field of 612 took to the partypoker tables in the Mini Opener and 91 progressed. Julien Loire ended Day 1A with 2,120,352 chips, narrowly ahead of Finnish sensation Markus Jappinen on 1,902,207.
Amazingly, Jappinen finished the evening as the chip leader in the Micro Opener. Some 1,363 players bought in and 202 made it safely through to Day 2. Jappinen bagged up an impressive stack of 2,874,647 chips, almost one million more than Claes Hermansen with 1,973,917.
WPT Online Series Opening Weekend Schedule
Day 1B of the trio of Opener tournaments take place on may 15, as does the eagerly anticipated WPT Online Series Mini Main Event and its Micro equivalent. Check out the table below and feast your eyes on the bustling schedule running this weekend.
