The 2014 partypoker WPT500 UK continued marching onwards on Monday when Day 1b of the £1,000,000 guaranteed tournament took place at Dusk Till Dawn in Nottingham. The cashiers processed 115 entries while registration was open and only 30 of those 115 managed to punch their Day 2 tickets.
Simon Higgins had the best day of the 30 survivors, bagging up not only the Day 1b chip lead but the overall chip lead thanks to turning his 30,000 starting stack into a colossal pile worth 330,400. Higgins is a regular on the United Kingdom and European poker circuit and one who has more than $800,000 in live tournament winnings.
By the time the curtain comes down on this massive event, Higgins should have even more winnings to brag about and perhaps another title to go with the partypoker WPT Merit Classic North Cyprus Mix Max trophy he secured in September 2014.
Also safely through to Saturday’s Day 2 are David Zermon (326,500), Gary Woods (231,000) and Alain Bauer (205,000) who all bagged up in excess of 200,000 chips at the close of play. Of that deep-stacked trio, Bauer is the most well-known thanks in part to his 22nd place finish in the 2013 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event.
Two other players to look out for on Saturday ended Day 1b at opposite ends of the chip counts. Scott Margereson, better known as “Aggro Santos” in online poker circles, finished with 143,500 chips and is poised for a deep run.
At the opposite end of the spectrum is one of Margereson’s online rivals in the shape of Andrew “stato_1” Hulme. The cricket-fan scraped through to Day 2 with 33,000 and will be looking to make a move early on Saturday as he attempts to chip up and claw his way back into contention.

This blog is a joke… no write ups when play is going on and no complete list of players who have made it to day 2.
