A year ago, the WPT UK was just a rumour on the wind circulating the world of poker. Fast forward 12 months and after countless, meticulous preparations, that rumour has been brought to life. We took a look behind the scenes at Dusk Till Dawn as it underwent a vast logistical and branding operation to be ready for the WPT500 and the World Poker Tour festival.
DTD is a wonderful venue and already prides itself in being ‘Europe’s Premier Cardroom.’ It is the perfect setting to ensure the partypoker and WPT brand take centre stage in the United Kingdom. Together WPT, partypoker and Dusk Till Dawn have overseen a branded revamp for all corners of the club.
New signage has been delivered, huge banners cover the outside of the building and posters have been installed around the club.
Even the outside bollards have been branded in partypoker and WPT colours!
All tables have been re-clothed.
Posters, wall banners and interview boards dress up the card room, while pull-up banners are popping up all over the place.
The two new stand-out features, to those familiar to DTD, will be the two marquee’s erected either side of the building. The club can already comfortably seat 400 players but with a total field of 2,000 expected for the WPT500 DTD and partypoker have gone that extra mile to ensure everyone has the best experience possible.
The first marquee will host up to another 25 poker tables that will be used for cash games, satellites and STT’s throughout the festival. There is also a bar, toilets and all the necessities.
The second marquee, dubbed ‘The Hospitality Marquee,’ provides the perfect environment for players to relax, unwind and enjoy themselves before, after and even during tournaments.
It contains a third bar, sofas, buffet area and pub games such as darts and pool.
In his latest blog, for the DTD website, club owner Rob Yong explained the hard work that gone into the preparation and why this could be a huge step for DTD and UK poker.
Nick Whiten, Dusk Till Dawn Operations Director, worked miracles with the local council and was able to obtain a permanent gaming and liquor licence for these marquees which means we have the flexibility to host even bigger events in the future.
“That is very much the way Dusk Till Dawn wants to go; developing and growing a small number of major events each year with blue chip partners rather than running run of the mill tournaments that just compete with the existing Genting Poker Series (GPS), UKIPT and Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT). I really feel that area of the market is more than catered for and we need to break new ground.”
With local celebrities such as UK boxing star Carl ‘The Cobra’ Froch and England football legend Stuart Pearce endorsing the event it is clear to see how much work has gone into making Nottingham and DTD the landmark for the WPT500 and WPT Festival.
