The eagerly anticipated partypoker WPT500 UK kicked off on November 9 and what a fantastic day of poker it was. Dusk Till Dawn was buzzing with excitement as players packed into the Nottingham-based venue hoping to turn their 30,000 starting stack into a much more substantial amount, which would give them a realistic shot at the £1 million guaranteed prize pool.
A total of 167 players bought in for £500 on Day 1a and purchased 31 re-entries between them, taking the total attendance to an impressive 198. Bagging up the most chips of the 46 surviving players at the end of the 14th level of play was Mark Elliott.
Elliott has a dozen live tournament cashes at Dusk Till Dawn (DTD), including one for £35,760 in September 2014. Should Elliott manage to build on his early success in the WPT500 UK event, he could well eclipse that already impressive largest cash, in fact he could obliterate it!
Joining Elliott on Day 2 and at the right end of the leader board was another DTD regular by the name of Chin Chai Koh who ended the night with 255,500 chips needing storing in the overnight chip bag. Koh is a fish shop owner who is affectionately known at DTD as “Chinese Frankie,” a player who always has a smile on his face while he is grinding away at the felt. Should Frankie make a deep run in the £1 million guaranteed event, his rail could be epic!
Other big stacks progressing to Day 2 on November 15 include David Cook (254,000), Robert Smith (246,500), Kenny Badachha (236,000) and Mark Buckley (232,000), while other notables such as Mark McCluskey (177,000), Chun Law (156,500), Timotheos Timotheou (77,500) and Paul Coughlan (29,000) also stamped their Day 2 tickets.

Day 1b, the second of seven available starting flights, commences at 13:00 on Monday 10 November and sees another 14 levels play out at DTD. Top poker talent like Chris Sly, Terry Jordon, Yucel “Mad Turk” Eminoglu and Tamel Kamel each busted on Day 1a and are likely to take another shot on Day 1b. If they do re-enter, they will be joined by two former Manchester United players in the shape of Lou Macari and Arthur Albiston.
Midfielder Macari made 404 appearances for The Red Devils between 1973 and 1984, scoring 97 goals, while Albiston turned out some 485 times from his left-back position from 1974 through to 1988. Both players are held in high regard by the Manchester United faithful and their appearance in the £1 million guaranteed WPT500 UK shows how popular and far reaching the game of poker is
