Saying the 2020 Irish Open Online Main Event has been a success is one of the understatements of the year. The €1 million guarantee was blown out of the water thanks to the incredible support shown by our players.
Some 2,945 players bought in for €1,100 and created a €2,945,000 prize pool, almost three-times the advertised guarantee. The top 408 finishers receive a slice of this gargantuan sum. Only 51 players remain in the hunt for the €462,099 first-place prize.
The money burst on April 11 when Warren Aspey busted in 409th place. Aspey’s exit locked up at least €2,149 for the surviving players.
Such luminaries as Mohsin Charania, Timothy Adams, Mustapha Kanit, Richard Dubini, Jaime Staples, Anton Wigg, and Jeff Gross all busted inside the money. As did the likes of Liv Boeree, Adrian Mateos, Davidi Kitai, Matthias Eibinger, and Marvin Rettenmaier.
Day 2 ended with 51 players in contention for the first-ever Irish Open Main Event Online title.
Luxembourg’s Sihao Zhang is the man to catch going into the final day. Zhang finished the day with 4,974,266 chips in his stack, almost 1.3 million more than Ireland’s Thomas Glynn on 3,678,862.
Other high profile stars through to Day 3 include Andras Nemeth (2,986,539), Tom Middleton (2,655,259), Parker Talbot (2,413,526), 2019 WSOP Main Event finalist Nick Marchington (1,818,758), Vojtech Ruzicka (1,289,636), and Samuel Vousden (1,107,271).
