In the past weeks and months, the likes of Carl Froch, Patrick Leonard, and Natalia Breviglieri have become part of the partypoker team as ambassadors or sponsored pros, joining Mike Sexton and Tony Dunst in the role of flying the partypoker flag.
Today, we are delighted to announce we have another stellar name joining the partypoker ranks, everyone’s favourite Welshman, the ever-popular Roberto Romanello.
Roberto is one of the most popular professional poker players on the live tournament circuit thanks to him being willing to sit and chat about poker, and anything else really, with anyone who wants to chew the fat with him.
Although Roberto is known for his friendly demeanour, it is a cover for him being a dangerous poker player, one who is both respected and feared in equal amounts. To date, Roberto has more than $3.3 million in live tournament winnings, an impressive figure helped by his wins in the European Poker Tour Prague Main Event in December 2010, and his World Poker Tour Bratislava title in March 2011.
Those of you who follow poker closely will no doubt have realised that those two victories mean Roberto is in with a chance of winning live poker’s coveted Triple Crown, a fictitious award given to anyone who wins an EPT, WPT, and a World Series of Poker bracelet.
Roberto almost secured a WSOP title this summer, but ultimately finished in third-place in the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event. He may have won $142,926 for that third-place, but we can tell you that nobody has ever won that amount of money and been so disappointed by it; Roberto really wants to become a member of the Triple Crown club.
During the 2016 WSOP, Roberto signed a short-term deal to be a partypoker sponsored pro, and has now extended the deal for a while longer. Speaking of the deal, Roberto said: “At this year’s WSOP, I was lucky enough to be asked to represent partypoker, and I took that opportunity; I was very produ to wear the patch.”
When he wasn’t busy playing poker, Roberto had the opportunity to chat with some of the partypoker management, and other staff, who impressed him with their forward thinking.
“I was very impressed with a lot of their ideas and plans for moving forward. It’s not a surprise that partypoker is growing at a fast rate, there are a lot of players out there who are impressed with the positive changes partypoker have made recently.”
When asked if he would be interested in extending his sponsorship deal for another year, Roberto jumped at the chance.
“For me it was an easy decision to sign up because the people behind the scenes at partypoker are very easy to work with, and that is important to me. The deal extends to the 2017 WSOP and that was something that helped seal the deal because everyone knows that I am chasing the Triple Crown; there is nothing I wat to achieve more in poker than becoming a Triple Crown winner.”
Keep your eye out in $109+ Power Series tournaments at partypoker where Roberto will be playing under the alias “TheWelshWizard,” while live grinders will catch a glimpse of Roberto at the upcoming Mazagan 10 High Roller in Morocco, Grand Prix Poker Tour Cardiff, WPT National Ireland, and the Caribbean Poker Party.
