I love the new partypoker guarantees and hope it will attract a new audience to playing poker online. ‘Poker for the People’ is what we’re aiming for, anyone can have a go and if you fancy your luck against me then bring it on, I’ll see you at the table in December!”
Four-time world champion, Carl Froch
Thirty-eight-year-old Froch announced his retirement from boxing in July after a glittering career that saw him win the super-middleweight world title four times. The Nottingham-born star turned pro on March 16, 2002, and went on to win 33 of his 35 fights, with 24 of those victories coming by knocking out his opponent.
Known as “The Cobra,” Froch last fought in May 2014 when he beat George Groves at Wembley Stadium to retain the WBA/IBF super-middleweight titles. While Froch has hinted at fighting one last time, it is his love for poker that is strong at the moment, and he’s keen to impress at the felt.
Poker and boxing may seem a million miles apart, but Froch told the partypoker blog that there are many similarities between the two, especially when it comes to mind games.
“There are lots of similarities between boxing and poker, mainly the mental strength required for both. The best comparison is the mental edge you need during a boxing weigh-in or pre-fight press conference, you have to try and psych out your opponent – it’s all about holding your nerve under pressure which is so important when player poker.”
Although Froch is gearing up to take on you, the partypoker players, if given the chance he would love to play a six-handed game of poker with some of boxing’s greats. Who do you think he chose when asked who he’d like to battle at the poker table?
“I would choose people I wanted to meet and spend time with, a game of poker can take a long time so I’d like to play against boxers that I could have a good time with. Mike Tyson, Chris Eubank, Prince Naseem Hamed, Barry McGuigan, Evander Holyfield and Ricky Hatton.”
A formidable foe in the ring, Froch has swapped gloves for chips and cards. Don’t miss your chance to play with the man once ranked the best British pound for pound boxer.
