The television screens around the Aspsers Casino Westfield poker room now display, in a lovely mixture of purple and white, that we are now into Level 2 and that 81 players have exchanged £1,650 for 25,000 tournament chips and the chance to become a World Poker Tour National London champion. However, a quick head count reveals there are only 79 players with chips in front of them, two players have already busted out after losing their 250 big blind stacks.
£1,650 per hour!
Both busted players are regulars on the London poker circuit. Antonis “Tony” Poulengeris was the first man to head out of the door, laughing and joking with the floor staff as he made his way into the cold London air.
The other player who has also exited never even had chance to take off his white puffer jacket and wool hat. Maybe he sensed his day was not going to last too long? Romano Pizzo committed his stack with on a board only to discover his opponent was sat there with .
“Am I out?” quizzed Pizzo as the dealer carefully counted the two players’ chips.
A slight nod of the head from the dealer confirmed Pizzo’s demise and if he is to win this event he will have to re-enter on Day 1B.
