Jamie O’Connor warmed up for the partypoker Players Championship (PPC) UK Main Event in amazing style by taking down the £2,700 buy-in Super High Roller event for £41,830. The victory was O’Connor’s second consecutive high-stakes title, with the avid Leeds United fan winning a £2,200 buy-in event in London in January.
O’Connor now has almost $1.2 million in live poker tournament winnings in addition to his $4.48 million in online scores.
PPC UK Super High Roller Final Table Results
Place | Player | Prize |
---|---|---|
1 | Jamie O’Connor | £41,830 |
2 | Jamie Nixon | £27,890 |
3 | Paul Allen | £16,730 |
4 | Tom Hall | £11,150 |
5 | Carl Shaw | £8,365 |
6 | Majid Nadeem | £5,580 |
Forty-six players bought into the PPC UK Super High Roller before late registration slammed shut, but only six of them walked away with some prize money to show for their efforts.
Majid Nadeem was the first in-the-money player out of the door. His sixth-place finish came with £5,580 in prize money, only a fortnight after he finished third in the €5,000 Coin Rivet High Roller at the 2022 Irish Open for €51,385.
World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Carl Shaw was the next player heading to the Dusk Till Dawn cashier’s cage. Shaw, who won a $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em event in 2019 for $606,562, had to make do with the £8,365 fifth-place prize money in this event.
The surviving four players were now guaranteed a five-figure haul with Shaw out of the way. Tom Hall of Shrewsbury, United Kingdom, fell in fourth place, which was the 164th live poker tournament cash of his career. This latest in-the-money finish came with £11,150. You may recall Hall finished fourth in the 2018 MILLIONS UK Main Event and returned home £300,000 richer then when he arrived. Look out for Hall in the PPC UK Main Event.
Local lad, Paul Allen crashed out in third place to send the tournament into the heads-up stage. Until this event, Allen’s largest live score tipped the scales a £12,600, his reward for a runner-up finish in a DTD200 event in 2017. He can now brag of winning £16,730.
O’Connor and Jamie Nixon found themselves heads up the title and the lion’s share of the £111,550 prize pool. Both players know each other well courtesy of them both being online and live grinders living in Leeds. They neglected to strike a deal, which meant Nixon had to console himself with the £27,890 second-place prize. This was Nixon’s third straight runner-up finish in a High Roller event having finished second in London for £40,323 and second again at the Irish Open for €44,600.
Nixon’s elimination left O’Connor as the last man standing and he received £41,830 and bragging rights among his peers.
