MILLIONS South America Super High Roller Results: Romero Wins
Place | Player | Country | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
1 | James Romero | United States | $325,000 |
2 | Marty Mathis | United States | $213,750 |
3 | Jacob Daniels | United States | $150,000 |
4 | Ivan Luca | Argentina | $100,000 |
5 | Francisco Benitez | Uruguay | $60,000 |
Romero has been in incredible form recently. The American star finished third in the 2020 MILLIONS UK Main Event where he collected $420,000 for his efforts. Only Christian Rudolph and champion Anton Suarez outlasted Romero on that occasion.
Fifteen players returned to the poker room at the Enjoy Resort & Casino in Punta del Este, Uruguay on Day 2. Niall Farrell, Rainer Kempe and Team partypoker pros Joao Simao and Dzmitry Urbanovich among them. None of this quartet reached the final five places where the prize money was, such was the strength of the field.
It was Farrell who burst the money bubble, falling in sixth-place. He raised to 1,925,000, leaving only 25,000 behind. Jacob Daniels and Fabrizio Benitez called from the small and big blinds respectively.
The flop was checked around. Daniels moved all-in on the turn, Benitez ducked out of the way, and Farrell called. It was for Farrell and for Jacobs. No miracle eight for Farrell and the Scotsman busted on the bubble.
Bentiez Busted
Benitez would have loved to win this event in his home country, but it wasn’t meant to be. The man widely known as “Tomatee” in online poker circles, saw Daniel set him all in from the small blind. Benitez made a stand with and received no help from the community cards, allowing Daniels’ to prevail.
Another extremely talented South American crashed out in fourth-place. Ivan Luca jammed from the small blind with . Romero used a timebank extension before calling with . His reward for the call was a king on the flop. The turn and river completed the board and confirmed Luca’s exit.
Romero Plays Aces Sneakily
Romero doubled through Daniels with a sneakily played pair or aces. He chose to limp on the button with , which prompted Daniels to jam for 14,575,000 with only . Romero snap-called. Daniels paired his nine on the flop but couldn’t find any more outs, catapulting Romero to chip leader.
Unsurprisingly, Daniels was the next to fall. He committed his last 6,775,000 chips from the button with . Marty Mathis folded from the small blind, but Romero called with in the big blind. A final board reading was enough to send Daniels to the showers.
Heads-Up Begins
The chip lead exchanged hand a couple of times before Romero took charge. The final hand saw Romero open to 1,600,000 and Mathis three-bet all-in for 7,875,000. Romero called and showed . Mathis, the reigning MILLIONS South America Main Event champion, turned over .
Romero watched on as the dealer fanned the community cards into play. A pair of aces was more than enough to get the job done and secure the $325,000 top prize.
