The 2020 Irish Poker Masters got underway over the weekend and it’s fair to say it is off to a flying start. Six partypoker players became champions plus the first of two Main Event flights is done and dusted.

Some 671 players turned out for Day 1A of the €1 million guaranteed Irish Poker Masters Main Event, meaning more than 67% of the guarantee has already been generated.

Team partypoker’s Ludovic Geilich shone brightly on the first flight, bagging up 3,610,000 chips at the close of play, enough for fourth place as things stand right now.

Geilich knows there is a long way to go in this tournament so can’t afford to take his foot off the gas. He has, however, put himself in a superb position for a deep run in this prestigious event.

Brazil’s Pedro Padilha Chaves claimed the Day 1A chip lead courtesy of accumulating 5,193,830 chips. The Brazilian was the only player to finish with more than five million chips.

The Swedish duo of Anton Siden and Joakim Andersson ended their flight with more chips than Geilich. Siden returns to the action armed with 4,386,817 chips with Andersson on 4,049,697.

Plenty of stellar names are among the 101 players who made it through the flight.

Christian Rudolph (2,409,036), Bruno Volkmann (2,178,390), and Anton Wigg (1,894,042) progressed with top 20 stacks. David Yan (1,708,902), Matthias Eibinger (1,674,048), Elio Fox (1,455,996), Team Online’s Hristivoje Pavlovic (1,049,242), Team partypoker’s Roberto Romanello (750,565), Chris Moorman (523,095), and Marc MacDonnell (121,009) are also in the hunt.

Despite Day 1A making some serious inroads into the hitting the guarantee, we’re increasing the number of seats in the upcoming Day 1B Mega Satellite at 15:30 GT on December 13. A massive 75 seats are guaranteed to be won in the €109 buy-in finale, but you can play your way into this satellite from only €0.01!

Boika Bags The Opener Title

A field of 776 entrants in The Opener ensured the €250,000 guaranteed was blown out of the water with €388,000 up for grabs. Half that sum went into the main prize pool with the remaining 50% divided up and put on the heads of every entrant.

Only 116 players made it through to the second day, all of them in the money places. Grinders such as Shawn Buchanan, Anton Wigg, Roberto Romanello, Jon Van Fleet, Darren Elias, and Toby Lewis padded their bankrolls.

Joao Vieira reached yet another major final table but his time there was short-lived. Vieira crashed out in seventh-place for a combined prize of almost €9,000.

Dante Fernandes and Goran Mandic were the next casualties before Dutch star Daan Mulders fell by the wayside in fourth-place for a combined €18,133.

Georgios Zismopoulos was the third-place finisher, a result worth €25,033, which left Sergi Koliakov and Aliaksei Boika heads-up. Boika, a former EPT champion, got the job done and his hands on a total prize worth €44,699 leaving Koliakov to bank a €34,429 consolation prize.
