Andrew Balfe got his hands on a career-best score worth £22,000 when he came out on top in the £150 buy-in Grand Prix UK Main Event. The tournament saw 1,156 players buy into the various online and live starting flights, and all 174 players who navigated their way to Day 2 at Dusk Till Dawn locked up a piece of the £150,000 prize pool.
Andrew Hulme, Luigi Viscomi, and Steve Jelinek were among those who finished in the money places, the latter falling in 14th place for £1,250.
Each of the nine finalists locked in a £1,750 score but with £22,000 up top, nobody wanted to reel in that amount. Unfortunately for Ben Jordan, he was the first finalist out of the door. Richard Lazarus and Tyler Cotton joined Jordan at the cashier’s desk and banked £2,250 and £2,750.
Michael Yates‘ deep run ended in a sixth-place finish worth £3,500 before Declan McManus crashed out in fifth for £4,500.
Nathaniel Brown, who won a £40 buy-in tournament at Dusk Till Dawn at the start of the year for £1,382, walked away with a career-best £6,500. There was another career-high prize awarded to Sanjay Pattni after he fell in third place. Pattni collected £9,500, dwarfing his previous career-high of £2,900.
Heads-up pitted Balfe against Nestoras Kakoyannis. The heads-up duo neglected to discuss a deal, so fought it out one-on-one for the title and the lion’s share of the prize pool. Balfe got the job done and his hands on £22,000, leaving Kakoyannis to collect a £14,275 consolation prize.
