When the WPT touched down on Canadian soil for the first time in four years the French speaking city of Montreal was in its sights to host its home coming. But after being away for so long would the crowds turn out to welcome it back?
Sum Of No Fears
Well those fears were soon forgotten when the mighty machine of the WPT rolled into town just a few days ago. It really would seem that no one could have expected just how successful it would prove to be as the fantastic Canadians welcomed the WPT back with open arms!
Crushin’ It
With nearly 1200 entries it’s proven to be the largest poker tournament over $1,000 buy-in in Canadian poker history. It’s also become the largest field of assembled pros at a poker event in Canadian history.
And if that’s not enough it’s crushed and destroyed a few WPT records along the way fast becoming the largest WPT event in Canadian History and on top of that the Third largest WPT event (by number of entries) worldwide in history (with a mere 8 entries off of second spot with the 1st and 2nd spot both being held by Borgata, Atlantic City)
Teves Rules The Nation
Now although the WPT Montreal hasn’t been a TV event we’ve seen the big four Canadian TV broadcasters on site covering it. CBC even featured Antonio Esfandiari with the Champions Trophy and Isabelle Mercier; they said this could turn into biggest event outside WSOP Main Event!
Where Cash Is King
The fun hasn’t stopped with the Main Event though with something like 30+ cash tables running concurrently with waiting lists breaching 200+ at times!
But Wait There’s More…So Much More!
And of course non-other than PartyPokers very own Marvin Rettenmaier took part in an ice hockey shooting challenge at the front of the poker room with Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Daniel Negreanu and Toronto Maple Leafs star Phil Kessel and announced by Bruce Buffer! Stay tuned for more!
