WPT Barcelona Day 3 live updates
All the final tables updates: WPT Barcelona Spanish Championship 2010 final table
Social media fever is taking over poker tables! One of our regular tweeps is Steven van Zadelhoff.
Huge favorit, he was building his stack up slowly, became the ship leader and then – snap! From huge stack to no stack, Steven was gone from his table.
So close to a huge win, Steven is still waiting for his big hit – 11th in Paris, 13th in Barca, were hoping he will tweet a better result from London. He was a never-ending source of funny faces and regular updates on his Twitter so we picked up his last few hands.

Tristan Clemencon is on hoping Lady Luck smiles his way. Last two big hands did not really go down the way he planned them.
First he picked up a pair of sixes and got involved in a 350k pot against Carl David Hendriksson who held AJ. Ace on the flop, Jack on the river, Tristan on the edge.
Not long before that, he answered to short stacked Edgars Strupkas all in on the flop by calling him with 45 off. The flop showed Jx6h7h and Strupka held 9x7x.
The turn came as Tristan held his breath – it was a 9h. Ace on the river left Tristan with only 120k.
Manuel Blaschke, one of the current chipleaders, is a live tournament player from Austria. He is here with his dad and the dad is a poker player as well. He actually made the final table at a $1,500 side event here in Casino BArcelona while railing on his son! Poker seems to be their family sport.
Herbert Paul Montalbano is out 12th! Herbert picked up open-ended straight draw on the flop, went all-in but was called by Ali Tekintagmac who flopped three of a kind. 10 on the turn made Ali a full house and Herbert is out winning 12,000 Euro!
Dane Mads Hansen was in a big pot versus Emil Mattson. Mads was holding pocket 9’s, Emil had Q 10. 330,000 went into the pot and a Queen on the river sent it all to Emil. Mads now has 270,000.
Mads is a big player on PartyPoker, his nickname is brogba84. He won our 300K Sunday Guranteed last Sunday and also made a deal on the final table of our MonthlyMillion for May month.
Last PartyPoker qualifier Atte Koskivirta is out of WPT Spanish Championship!
Manuel Cuberos Lopez, shortstack, went all-in three times in a row. From 60,000, to 80,000 to 100,000. He got called by Atte in his third all-in. Manuel showed Ax9d. Atte had pocket 8’s. Atte was confident he would win the pot but two diamonds on the flop, and two more on turn and river eliminated him.
The diamond flush flushed Atte and the $1,000,000 PartyPoker payout from the WPT.
Atte-roller-coaster continues. He went from 300,000 down to 3,000 and has now fought his way back to 101,000. Here is an interview with Atte:
Looks like the dinner brought Atte Koskivirta some bad luck.
Just as he came back from the break, sitting down with his huge stack, he picked up AK and decided to play them. He got involved in a hand against the Spanish movie Roberto Garcia Santiago who had a pair of Aces, and even though a King came on the river, Atte lost almost all of his stack.
Being left with only 3k, he did not hesitate – 4 times all in and he is back in the game with over 70k. What a roller-coaster!
We are at level 20. Antes are 1,000, blinds are 5,000 – 10,000. Average chips 305,625. Last 16 chip counts at the dinner break:
- VAN ZADELHOFF , STEVEN 941,000
- TEKINTAMGAC , ALI 499,000
- IREMARK , MATS ERIK 370,000
- CLEMENCON , TRISTAN QUENTIN 338,000
- MATTSSON , PER EMIL 337,000
- BLASCHKE , MANUEL 327,000
- KOSKIVIRTA , ATTE 303,000
- STRUPKA , EDGARS 282,000
- HANSEN , MADS SMITH 268,000
- LINNA , JYRI PETTERI MIKAEL 266,000
- GARCIA SANTIAGO, ROBERTO 235,000
- DA SILVA PEREIRA , PAULO JORGE 208,000
- GOMILA ROMERO, BARTOLOME 173,000
- MONTALBANO JR , HERBERT PAUL 168,000
- CUBEROS LOPEZ COZAR, MANUEL 143,000
- HENRIKSSON , CARL DAVID 101,000
PartyPoker’s last man standing is Atte Koskivirta. He has just eliminated Brunet Frederic and moved up to 300,000 in chips. Brunet went all-in with KJ and Atte called with pocket 9’s. Brunet flopped two pairs but another 9 on turn made Atte three of a kind.
In case that Atte wins the event PartyPoker will award him with $500,000 on top of the regular prize pool and $500,000 more will be split between the rest of PartyPoker qualifiers, no matter what place they finished.
Sergio David Soria, PartyPoker qualifier from Murica, Spain, was just eliminated in 21st position. His pocket 9’s ran into pocket Aces. Sergio cashed in 6,300 Euro!
It was Sergio’s first offline tournament experience, and he called it “unique”. He has watched WPT on TV over the years and never thought that he would be playing in one.
He will go watch the Champions League final later tonight to celebrate this great result.
PartyPoker qualifiers Ben Carpenter and Luka Djumic met each other for the first time at WPT Barcelona. Interesting is that they knew each other from PartyPoker tables and had a bit of a fight going on in the table chat. Now they love each other, see the video.
Update from PartyPoker qualifier Ruben Perez (tommy1000 nickname at PartyPoker tables). Ruben was eliminated in 42nd place, 6 away from getting in the money.
Under the gun had pocket Kings and opened with a 11,000 bet. Ruben was on the button and pushed all-in holding pocket 10’s. UTH did call and there was no help for Ruben on the board.
This was his first WPT experience, he enjoyed it but is going away a bit sad as he was so close to making the money.
This was quick! Erik Friberg is the bubble boy!
Mats Iremark raised from the button with JJ, Erik went all-in with A 4 offsuit and got the call. Another J on the flop made Erik the bubble boy.
It is bubble time! 37 players are left and the next one that goes out will be the unlucky one that goes out with no money while the last 36 players will be secured a minimum of 6300 Euro!
WPT Spanish Championship prizes are as follows, top 36 will get paid:
- 315.000€ + WPT seat in Las Vegas final + Tiffany bracelet
44 players start the day 3, including chipleader Per Linde and 5th placed Atte Koskivirta, who is the only PartyPoker qualifier left eligible for the $1,000,000 on top of the regular prize pool!
If Atte wins, PartyPoker pays an extra $500,000 to him on top of the €315,000 first prize and 23 qualifying online PartyPoker qualifiers get to share the other $500,000!
Atte said: “I am aware of the position I am sitting in – I have 23 other people cheering me on and I will do my best for them!”
Day 3 in Barcelona is underway!
Per Linde (3rd place in WPT Paris last week and chip leader at WPT Barcelona after day 3) shows you his 5 tips on how to last long in a poker tournament.
Only one PartyPoker qualifier that is eligible for the $1,000,000 top-up from PartyPoker is left in the game! But he is the 5th best placed player after the day 2. It will be very interesting to follow Atte’s progress tomorrow.
- KOSKIVIRTA , ATTE FINLANDIA 157,100
The official chip counts of the Day 2 are here now. Per Linde, Swede who got 3rd place in Paris last week, is the chip leader. See Per Linde’s 5 tips on how to last long in a poker tournament here.

PartyPoker qualifier Juan Pedro Herranz Palomo is out. He had A Q on the button and ended up all-in against big A K in the small blind. There was another King on the flop and Juan Pedro is out.
Dragan Galic is out! He had pocket Aces, got all-in before the flop versus pocket Jacks. Another player on the table mentioned that he folded J 10 but unlucky for Dragan the one-outer hit on the river to send Dragan out of WPT.
It is the level 12 at WPT Spanish Championship. 77 players remain in play, antes are 200 while blinds are 800 – 1600.
Average chip count is 63,506.
Paolo Jorge from Portugal is the chip leader right now with 140K!
The total prize pool is 1,043,200 Euros.
5 of the PartyPoker qualifers that are still playing the WPT Barcelona are eligible for the §1 million prize from PartyPoker if they win the event! Qualifiers in question are Atte Koskivirta, Daniel Vorbeck, Juan Pedro Herranz Palomo, Jorge Alonso Lago, and Ioan Claudio Mihalache.
In case any of them wins the event, PartyPoker will award them $500,000 on top of the regular prize pool and the other $500,000 will be split between the rest of PartyPoker qualifiers, no matter what place they finish.
Stefanita Fechete, PartyPoker qualifier from Romania, is out now.
He was on the button with A 8 suited, raised 3 times the big blind, but the big blind went all-in. Stefanita was a short stack and decided to call.
Big blind had pocket 8’s and there was no luck for Stefanita on the board.
We are on a short break. Dragan Galic played the last hand before the break. Button raised and Dragan decided to defend his big blind holding J 10. Dragan hit his Jack on the J 9 5 flop, checked, the original raiser bet, Dragan raised him but was put all-in!
Dragan decided to fold the top pair as his kicker was not the best and the opponent is not very active so might have actually have got a great hand.
Dragan is at 50K now while the average stack is at 51K.
We still have 11 PartyPoker qualifiers left alongside Team PartyPoker pro Dragan Galic. Here they are including their countries and chip counts at the start of Day 2:
- Johansson, Martin 16,900
- Koskivirta, Atte 30,000
- Fechete, Stefanita 19,100
- Sivage, Quinn 70,100
- Vorbeck, Daniel 47,600
- Vivet, Nicolai 20,000
- Callari, Luigi 9,700
- Carrasco Amado, Jose 13,200
- Ceron Soria, Sergio David 38,800
- Munoz Navarro, Vicente Jose 12,100
- Mihalache, Ioan Claudio 98,700
PartyPoker qualifier Ben Carpenter (MYBIGGUNS at the tables) is out! Like Dragan he also had pocket Aces but was unlucky to lose. The opponent had QJ and hit open-ended straight draw on the Turn. Ben went all-in at this point but with an unlucky K on the river the opponent hit his straight.
Ben really liked the WPT Barcelona experience and says that he will play these events more often in the future.
Team PartyPoker’s Dragan Galic doubles up some 40 minutes into the Day 2 here at WPT Barcelona. He now has 40K with help of pocket Aces after he found himself all-in before the flop. His opponent had pocket Queens and luckily for Dragan no other Queen hit the board. Good start for the last Team PartyPoker representative!
Per Linde (finished 3rd in WPT Paris last week) and Quinn Sivage (finished 11th in WPT Paris) were seen at the Casino Barcelona bar late last night / early this morning. The guys did the credit card roulette for the bill at the end of the night and Quinn won (he says he always wins) and Per had to spend some of the 234,780 hard-earned Euros that he won last week.
We will keep you updated on how this late night effects their play today.
The WPT day 2 is underway here in Barcelona, Spain.
