The 40th World Series of Poker is well under way and as the players continue converging upon Las Vegas, the excitement level is growing everyday as we get closer to the main event.

Participants would be forgiven from thinking that the current global economic crisis was refused entry to the Rio® All Suite Hotel and Casino. Some of the early events have attracted record numbers of players generating huge prizepools for the early birds who arrived in Las Vegas before the mad rush. We are destined to have a huge number of players take part in the main event which will start on July 3rd.

PartyPoker will have over 100 players heading for Las Vegas hoping to emulate the success of last years winner Peter Eastgate. Some of these players will be playing a live poker event for the first time whilst others have plenty of big money live poker experience. Some players have been in Las Vegas for a few weeks now like player BIGTIMEE who has picked up a couple of impressive cashes in the early side events. Whatever previous experience each player has, the main event of the WSOP is a truly unique tournament.

Another player who will be aiming to continue his recent run of good form at the tables will be PartyPoker Ambassador Ian Frazer. Whilst Ian has not done so well in any of the WSOP events yet, anyone who has been reading his blog here on PartyPoker will know that he has done well at the cash tables and also won a $1k tournament as well. Ian will continue to write his blog during the remainder of the WSOP so we can keep up to date with his “luvvly jubbly” antics both on and off the table. Good Luck Ian.

The PartyPoker staff are all busy preparing to arrive in Las Vegas on June 29th. One of the team, Andreas has never been to America before, let alone Las Vegas and he is getting so excited he is ready to burst. “This is my equivalent to going to Mecca” he told me yesterday. At first I thought he meant the bingo hall but then I realised he meant the pilgrimage destination. For many poker players, going to the WSOP is a little bit like a religious experience for them except you don’t have to wear your best clothes and comb your hair like you do in a church. Instead you can sit and play poker in your pyjama’s if you like just as long as you remember to bring your ‘A’ game to the table.

Starting on June 30th, I shall be blogging everyday from Las Vegas starting with the lead up to the main event. I’ll also be following the fortunes of all our players as they do battle in the biggest poker tournament in the world. Keep up to date on all our players every day as they prepare to take the WSOP by storm.
Good luck to you all our players.
