The World Poker Tour (WPT) National series dropped anchor in the Netherlands for the first time in October 2014 and was a roaring success, leading to scores of questions on social media about when the next Dutch WPT would be.
Yesterday, the WPT proudly announced, after signing a four-year partnership with Holland Casino, that the world’s largest poker tour will be returning to Holland, making its first foray into Amsterdam in May of this year.
Heading to “The Venice of the North” and bringing with it a full-sized €3,300 buy-in WPT Main Event, Holland Casino hosts the latest edition of the WPT Tour from 11 – 16 May, 2015. The Netherlands, and the rest of Europe for that matter, has been screaming out for this type of main event and the WPT is excited to bring people what they have desired for so long.
“We are proud to announce our partnership with Holland Casino, and to bring both the WPT Main Tour and the WPT National Tour to two world-class properties in the Netherlands. The Dutch have a rich history in poker, including various final table appearances on the World Poker Tour, and we look forward to creating more memories with top professionals and aspiring players alike over the next four years,” said WPT President Adam Pliska.
There’s no better place to host a WPT event, as Amsterdam is one of the most vibrant and diverse cities in the world. There’s so much to do that, if your title dreams go up in smoke, you’ll be able to easily find distraction to keep your mind off of your premature tournament exit. From world renowned museums (including the Van Gogh Museum), to music festivals and “coffee” shops, nobody will be putting a red light on your fun and adventure.
WPT National Valkenburg last year saw 402 players pay the €500+€50 buy-in, creating a prize pool of €194,970. The lion’s share of winnings, €40,000, went to tournament champion Niels van Leuwen, his triumph made more impressive by beating the likes of Dutch legend Joep van den Bijgaart, Marcel Luske and runner-up Pim van Wieringen.
In the run up to May’s historical event, partypoker is hosting a number of qualifiers that feed into a weekly satellite. At least one lucky winner walk away with a WPT Amsterdam package valued at $4,500 ($3,600 for the buy-in and $900 spending money).
This satellite is set to run at 15:15ET (21:15 CET) and costs $500 to enter, although you’ll be able to win a seat into the weekly finale for a much less.
In addition to the two exciting events already mentioned, those of you heading to Amsterdam for the World Poker Tour festivities will also be able to get your teeth into a plethora of side events including a €6,000 buy-in High Roller, various live satellites, a €1,500 buy-in Big Stack event and much more.
