Taylor Black won the 2018 partypoker LIVE MILLIONS North America Main Event and got his hands on C$1,400,000 in the process, taking his lifetime winnings past the $2 million barrier and getting his name in poker’s history books.

Some 1,954 entries were processed in the C$5,300 buy-in Main Event and only 251 of those starters received a slice of the C$10 million prize pool. Such luminaries as Adam Owen, Jeff Gross, Timothy Reilly, Shaun Deeb, Martin Jacobson, Jean-Pascal Savard, Team partypoker’s Kristen Bicknell, Richard Dubini and Renato Nomura, Ludovic Geilich, Marvin Rettenmaier, Manig Loeser, Ema Zajmovic, Marc-Andre Ladouceur and Joseph Cheong were just some of the stellar names to make it into the money, going to show how prestigious this event was.
The final day’s action started with nine players, each guaranteed C$150,000 for their effort. Guillaume Nolet was the unfortunate soul to burst the final table bubble after his 10 big blind shove with was called by Anthony Ruberto holding . No help arrived on the board and Nolet exited in ninth.

Tommy Nguyen bust in eighth-place. Nguyen min-raised to 12 million with and called when Black three-bet to 35 million in late position with . Both players checked the flop. Nguyen led for 27 million on the turn and Black called. The river was the and Nguyen checked. Black moved all-in and Nguyen called off his last 129 million only to see Black had trip eights, which crushed Nguyen’s two pair.
With blinds at 3,500,000/7,000,000/7,000,000, Black opened to 15 million fro under the gun with , Ruberto called with and George Lagos squeezed all-in for 85 million from the small blind with . Black instantly folded, but Ruberto called. The board gifted both payers a flush, although it was Ruberto whose flush was stronger so Lagoes was eliminated in seventh-place.
Next to fall was Demosthenes Kiriopoulos who jammed all-in for a shade under nine big blinds with and Black called with . The pocket fives held as the five community cards ran and the player count was reduced by one.
Fifth-place went to Charles La Boissonniere during the 5,000,000/10,000,000/10,000,000a level. Germany’s Markus Prinz limped in with from under the gun, La Boissonniere moved all-in for 147 million in the cutoff with and Ruberto re-jammed from the big blind with . Prinz folded and when the board ran it was game over for Boissonniere.
Who wants to be a millionaire?
Prinz bust almost immediately after Boissonniere’s demise. Prinz pushed his 15 big blinds into the middle with and found a caller in the shape of Daryll Fish who held . The board didn’t even flirt with helping Prinz and he bust in fourth-place, which meant each of the three surviving players were guaranteed to win at least C$1 million.
The first player to collect a seven-figure score was Ruberto who raised to 25 million with and called when Black made it 85 million to play with . Black initially checked on the flop, Ruberto bet 25 million, Black check-raise to 135 million and Ruberto called with his ace-high. Black checked again on the turn. Ruberto maoved all-in for 439 million and Black instantly called. The river was the and Ruberto was heading for the cashier’s cage.
That hand gave Black a 1,590,000,000 to 350,000,000 lead over Fish, but the contest was far from over. Heads-up lasted more than two hours and while Fish never gained the lead, he put up a valiant effort.
The final hand saw Fish make it 45 million to play, Black three-bet to 140 million and Fish called. Black led for 130 million on the flop, Fish moved all-in for 354 million and Black snap-called. Fish showed for top pair and Black for a pair of aces. The landed on the turn and was followed into play by the Qh], which gave Fish two pair but Black had the bigger two pair and therefore the hand, all of the chips and the C$1.4 million top prize.
