The 2022 Irish Open Online only has one event left needing a champion after Kazymyr Sholota and Sebastian Amaya won the 7-Max PKO and the 6-Max events, respectively. Only the Knockout Championship remains on the schedule and both these new champions definitely have the bankroll to buy into it and compete for a slice of the €250,000 guaranteed prize pool. You could be playing in it for as little as a cent, more on that shortly.

Sholota Shines in the 7-Max PKO

A field of 303 players fought it out for a share of the €50,000 prize pool in the 7-Max PKO event and Ukraine’s Kazymyr Sholota outlasted them all to secure a €7,341 payday. Each of the seven players who navigated their way through the shark-infested waters in this €150 buy-in tournament saw their initial investment swell to more than €1,400 when bounties were included.

Franz-Josef Kiekenbeck was the first of the seven finalists to bow out. Sebastian Amaya, who won the 6-Max event a day later, finished in sixth, with Jamie Giles and Victor Silva crashing out in fifth and fourth place, respectively.

Heads-up was set when Austria’s Tomas Patka dusted off his stack; Patka collected €3,783 for his efforts. Sholota locked horns with Martin Christensen of Denmark and came out on top to add €3,471 in bounties to their €3,870 first-place prize, a combined score tipping the scales at €7,341. Christensen had to make do with a €4,457 consolation prize.

Sebastian Amaya made up for the disappointment of reaching the 7-Max PKO event’s final table but not winning by taking down the €250 buy-in 6-Max tournament a day later. Victory in the 6-Max came with an €8,960 score after he outlasted 213 opponents.

Each of the finalists banked more than €1,700 for their time and effort. Kevin Killeen saw his tournament end abruptly in sixth place for €1,748. Killeen came close to matching his fellow countryman, Dan Wilson, in becoming an Irish champion of an Irish Open Online event.

Finnish star Caimir Seire joined Killeen on the rail before the untimely demises of Nashid Hindocha and Mark Dyson left Amaya heads-up against Paul Hoefer. Amaya got the job done and his hands on €8,960, leaving Hoefer to walk away with the second-place prize of €6,238.
