Poker is a funny old game. It is one of the rare games where you can finish second out of thousands of opponents and still be disappointed. This happened to Anatoly “Mywifeisbest” Ryzhov who finished second in a Legend of the Week leaderboard in December but recently made amends by taking down Leaderboard 5 last week.
Anatoly lives in Istra, a region of Moscow, Russia, and works in the construction industry. The grinder has played poker for the past 10-years but openly admits that it is only over the past three years that he is happy with the standard of his play.
As mentioned, Anatoly came close to becoming a Legend of the Week late in 2020 when he finished in second place.
“This is not the only time I have won prizes from the leaderboards,” Anatoly told the partypoker blog. “I already took second place in December. This time, I managed to take first place, which I am very happy about!”
Anatoly Hopes For More Success This Time Around
Finishing in the Legend of the Week payout places awards Daily Legends tickets. Those tickets are worth much more than the cost of entering the tournaments that award points on their leaderboard.
“Last time I used the tickets, I did not enjoy much success. I only managed a few knockouts in the $530 tournament. Hopefully, this time around, I can show better results.”
Anatoly received more than $2,700 worth of Daily Legends tickets for finishing at the top of Leaderboard 5. Playing in the $55 Gladiator and $55 Masters tournaments earns points for this leaderboard; Anatoly shone brightly in those events during his leaderboard-topping grind.
“I won the $55 Gladiator and climbed to first place on the leaderboard, but my lead was very small. I realised I needed to cash a few more times, so starting playing both The Masters and Gladiator for the remaining three days. On the Saturday, I watched the final table of the Gladiator, and there was a player in the top six who could have caught me had he won. Fortunately, he was eliminated in sixth.”
Anatoly Running Hot at partypoker
The Legend of the Week prizes allow their winners to take shots in tournaments they would not ordinarily have the chance to play in. Anatoly has taken shots before, including during the recent MILLIONS Online Main Event.
“I have little experience playing expensive tournaments. I have played around 50 tournaments with these limits, including the MILLIONS Online Main Event where I managed to finish in the money. I finished somewhere around 80th place and won around three buy-ins.”
Winning circa $15,000 is a great achievement, but Anatoly won his $5,300 seat via a $55 satellite! It took him four attempts to secure the MILLIONS Online seat, but that still means he won his $15,000 prize for only $220!
There is little doubt in our minds that we will see Anatoly’s name high up the chip counts in our Daily Legends and other major tournaments.
