Nottingham’s Sam Trickett emerged as the triumphant winner at the inaugural partypoker.com Road to Old Trafford event held at the home of Manchester United over the past weekend.

High Stakes Sam…

High stakes superstar and die hard United fan Sam walked away with £10,000 from the recreational event and made a substantial donation to Rio Ferdinand’s Live the Dream Foundation Charity as a result.

27-year-old Sam, well known for his high stakes exploits in finishing second in the most recent partypoker.com Premier League and second for $10 million in the Big One for One Drop at the WSOP in 2012 entered the recreational £250 buy-in 169 runner event because of his passion for Manchester United.

Sam’s total live poker tournament winnings amount to $19,752,481, placing him second on the all-time poker money list but winning a relative smaller amount at United was clearly something dear to his heart.

Trickett started playing poker in 2005 after suffering a knee injury that ended his career as a semi-professional footballer. “I am really happy to win this event – I played for fun but I felt I really had to win at Old Trafford – I made it my mission!” said Sam.

A Very Special Surprise…

The day before the final table Sam had been presented with a special signed United shirt by Rio Ferdinand after a visit to the legendary Aon Training Complex with competition winners the morning after watching Rio’s testimonial match against Sevilla at the ‘Theatre of Dreams.’

“I am happy to make a contribution to Rio’s charity, it is a very worthy cause,” said Sam, “this has been a great fun weekend and so much different and more relaxed than any other tournament I have played. I am totally made up for winning at Old Trafford, it has been an amazing experience..”

True Football + PartyPoker Legends…

The recreational poker event was attended by football legends Bryan Robson, Dwight Yorke, Quinton Fortune and Norman Whiteside, with Darren Fletcher choosing to enter on day one.

PartyPoker.com’s Kara Scott and Jesse May were on hand to compere the event which offered signed merchandise and chances to win money cannot buy experiences.

Kara interviewed the legends alongside the Premiership trophy, which was on display throughout the event, with freeroll sit-and-go’s, stadium tours and fun and games taking place for those out of the Main Event.
