Team PartyPoker’s Patrick “Patrick_Leonard” Leonard continued his purple patch of form this weekend by taking down the $109 buy-in $150,000 guaranteed Sunday PartyPoker. You may recall that Leonard finished at the top of the tree in the Sunday Party last week. His latest impressive victory makes Leonard not only the first-ever double Sunday Party champion but also the first PartyPoker player to win back-to-back Sunday Party tournaments!
On April 16, Leonard was one of 1,354 entrants in the $150,000 guaranteed Sunday Party. He navigated his way to Day 2, where he found himself fourth from 15 in chips, and with a great chance to become the tournament’s champion. Leonard was full of confidence going into that Day 2, not least because he had earlier triumphed in the Super $320 for $7,983.
Leonard was right to be confident because on April 17, he left another 14 opponents in his wake, clinching the Sunday Party title and a prize worth $18,747.
Leonard’s Title Defence Begins
Fastforward to April 23, and the Sunday Party attracted 1,237 entrants, including Leonard’s teammates Jaime “jaimestaples” Staples and Matt “MatthewStaples” Staples. While Matt busted at around the halfway stage, Jaime lasted until 66th place, which netted the popular grinder $265 including bounties.
The curtain came down on Day 1’s proceedings when “DaOBountMarreco” bowed out in 17th place, leaving only 16 players in the hunt for the Sunday Party title. Who was the chip leader going into Day 2? The one and only Leonard, and by a distance of more than six million chips.
Also in the mix was “SixBetShove,” who finished seventh in last week’s Sunday Party.

Leonard may have gone into Day 2 with the chip lead but victory was far from guaranteed due to the quality of the opposition. The players fell one by one until only nine remained, with each of those finalists locking in more than $1,500 for their efforts, when you included bounty payments.
“NeoTheOne71” had the plug pulled in ninth place and scooped a $1,517 score. Eighth place went to “SharkNoScope” who was shot down and received $1,870. The final table then became officially short-handed when “Jack Harlow” ran out of steam in seventh, a finish good for $2,542.
It is a well-known fact that Leonard prefers short-handed tables as it allows for him to apply more pressure through his trademark aggression. It was at this point that most spectators and railbirds truly thought that back-to-back victories were possible.
The win drew closer after “new name cba” and “Belgrade1111” bowed out and padded their PartyPoker bankrolls with $3,09 and $4,510, respectively. The elimination of “Deano_T8” and “KAURAMAIT0,” resulting in scores of $4,673 and $9,798, sent the Sunday Party into the heads-up stage.
“Primordial” was the only player standing between Leonard and his second Sunday Party victory in the space of two weeks. Fortunately, for Leonard at least, Leonard got the job done, busting Primordial in second place and resigning him to an $11,553 consolation prize. A delighted Leonard reeled in an $18,717 score and Sunday Party title number two in the space of seven days!
