Monster Series Round-Up: chyluk Leads $150K Opening Event

The Monster Series kicked off on Halloween but the only thing scary is how good these tournaments are. Low-cost doesn’t mean low quality, far from it, because these Monster Series events have amazing blind structures, limited late registration and re-entries, giving you a championship event experience for a fraction of the buy-in.

This is the story so far.

Monster #01 – 8-Max: $150K Gtd

The $150,000 guaranteed opening event has reached Day 2 with both starting flights done and dusted. A total of 3,685 players bought in for $33 and only 607 of those hopefuls remain.

“chyluk” is the player to catch when play resumes at 20:30 CET on November 2. They finished their flight with a tournament-leading stack of 2,360,083 and is now in pole position for the huge $22,820.25 top prize.

There’s still plenty of poker to be played in this event because 607 players have chips in front of them. Some 536 of those will receive a slice of the $150,000 prize pool.

Blinds at the restart at 8,000/16,000/2,000a and the average stack is 606,707, so a fraction under 38 big blinds.

Monster #01 – Mini 8-Max: $15K Gtd

Only 555 of the 3,520 starters in the Monster #01 – Mini 8-Max remain and 472 of those will secure a slice of the $15,000 prize pool. One of those 555 returnees will walk away with the title of champion and a $2,292.98 top prize for their troubles.

“pipec_18499” returns to the tables in the enviable position as the chip leader, courtesy of bagging up 2,547,978 chips at the close of their flight. Three of pipec_18499 opponents finished their flights with more than two million chips, too. Look out for “zerblom”, “DefenD”, and “Free_The_Real” when play resumes at 20:30 CET on November 2.

Monster #02 – Hyper Knockout: $20K Gtd

“castaway….” was the first champion of the Monster Series after they topped a field of 1,547-entrants in the Monster #02 – Hyper Knockout: $20K Gtd event. Half the $20,000 prize pool went on the heads of each entrant, the remaining $10,000 was shared among the top 228 finishers.

The champion walked away with more than $2,100 with bounties included. They won the $1,383 top prize plus an additional $812 from the bounty prize pool. That bounty prize was so chunky because the winner of a PKO tournament secures the bounty on their own head.

“PlaytheGame” was the runner-up. This impressive finish netted them a $1,379 prize plus $159 from the bounty prize pool.

We have to doff our cap to fourth-place finisher “Dgang” who accumulated $337 worth of bounties. Only castaway…. managed to send more opponents to the sidelines.

Monster #02 – Mini Hyper Knockout: $2K Gtd

While castaway…. was busy marching to victory in the first Hyper Knockout, “Mrkevver” was doing the same in the $1.10 buy-in Mini edition. A field of 1,430 players descended on the partypoker virtual felt, each wanting to become a Monster Series champion.

First-place weighed in at $149 plus $68 worth of bounties, a substantial return on a $1.10 investment. On a par with the victory was the fact this tournament only took a shade over 2.5 hours from start to finish. Imagine winning more than $200 from a $1.10 investment and doing so in time to get tucked up in bed at a reasonable hour!

Monster #03 – Deepstack: $30K Gtd

Prize pool: $45,960

Monster #03 – Deepstack: $30K Gtd was the first deepstack event of the series and it proved popular with 2,298 players buying in for $22 and creating a $45,960 prize pool.

All but two of those who reached the final table turned their $22 investment into a four-figure prize. “jonny vqen” and “Sweet Caroline” were those two players; they banked $554.96 and $746.85 respectively.

“lolchtole” ($1,089.25), “ViStation” ($1,594.8) and “Dolivirum” ($2,284.21) were the next to bust before “SteveRogers” fell in third for $3,400.81 and sent the tournament into the heads-up stage.

Heads-up pitted “AAseguraKK” against “Fighterlove” and the heads-up duo decided to strike a deal. The deal saw Fighterlove crowned champion and take home $6,443.83 with AAseguraKK collecting $6,297.44.

Monster #03 – Mini Deepstack: $3K Gtd

Entrants: 2,200
Prize pool: $4,400

There was no deal in the Mini Deepstack, a $2.20 buy-in affair that drew in a 2,200-strong crowd. The lion’s share of the $4,400 prize pool, namely $727.51, is now nestled in the partypoker account of “Staken” who defeated the awesomely named “LanaDelRaise” heads-up, resigning the runner-up to a $512.96 consolation prize.

All but two of the finalists saw their $2.20 buy-in swell to more than $100, a superb result for a micro-stakes event.

What Monster Series Events Can You Play Today?

Monday 2nd November sees the first non-Hold’em event take place. Monster #05 is the event you want if you’re a fan of Pot-Limit Omaha. Head to the partypoker tables from 19:30 CET to make the start of the $5.50 and $0.55 buy-in PLO events.

The $5.50 buy-in carries a $2,500 guarantee while the $0.55 has a $250 guaranteed prize pool.

An hour later, at 20:30 CET are a pair of 6-Max Knockout tournaments. Monster #06 comes with a $11 and $1.10 buy-in, with guarantees of $75,000 and $7,500 respectively. November 2 sees the first of two starting flights for these exciting PKOs shuffle up and deal. Day 1B starts at the same time on November 3.
