Peter Shaw loves the Legend of the Week promotion because it gives him added incentives to stay focus during the daily grind. That focus recently paid off because Peter won Leaderboard 4 and won $1,510 worth of Daily Legends tickets despite grinding $22 buy-in tournaments.

Peter is a 34-year-old from Manchester, United Kingdom, who now lives in Macclesfield. He is one of many partypoker players who juggles the hustle-bustle of a day job with grinding online poker tournaments.

“I used to live in Pau in Southern France and played poker to pay the bills there. At the moment, I work part-time in events in addition to studying and playing poker full time. I’m trying to become a professional poker player with the aim of travelling the world playing the biggest events.”

Starting Life as a SNG Grinder

Sit & Go tournaments is where Peter cut his teeth in the poker world. It is extremely common for multi-table tournament stars to start their careers playing SNG. They are, after all, essentially final tables on demand. Sit & Go tournaments are quite methodical, with similar situations cropping up continually. It is for that reason Peter switched to MTTs.

“I used to play micro sit & go tournaments but changed to micro-to-low MTTs because there are so many more interesting spots.”

Peter won Leaderboard 4 of the Legend of the Week promotion, which meant he needed to shine in the $22 buy-in Predator and/or The Clasico. It was the latter where Peter excelled.

“I chopped The Clasico when heads-up as the chip leader to help win Leaderboard 4. It is the second time I’ve won the leaderboard this year, and The Clasico was my favourite tournament the first time too. I really like the structure.”

The Clasico Is Peter’s Favourite Daily Legends Tournament

The Clasico shuffles up and deals every day at 18:05 BST and costs $22 to enter. Your $22 buys you 100,000 chips, and you play to a 10-minute clock where blinds start at 500/1,000/130a. Late registration is only open for 12-levels, and only one re-entry is permitted, which massively levels the playing field.

Peter’s performances in The Predator and The Clasico saw him come away with $1,510 worth of Daily Legends tickets and gave him a shot at a massive payday.

  • The Tuesday 500 ($530)
  • The Thursday 500 ($530)
  • Three $150 Daily Legends tickets

“The tickets I won are way above my usual buy-in level, so it’s a real experience being able to freeroll in the bigger games among the pros. I love the Legend of the Week promotion for that reason but also because it gives me added incentive to focus on my daily games.”

Peter’s main goals for the remainder of 2021 are climbing up stakes and becoming a regular in higher buy-in tournaments.

“I aim to become more comfortable playing at higher stakes, and partypoker is really helping me to achieve that. Keep up the good work, guys!”
