You might remember the name John Gudger. He’s the partypoker player who managed to pull off the ultimate poker trick there is. Turning a $3 online qualifier into a whopping £12,750 payday by winning the  partypoker World Poker Tour National UK Milton Keynes Main Event. All this and a little known fact is that this was actually his first live tournament in the United Kingdom!

No easy feat…

Once he’d secured his seat to the live event he still needed to conquer a field of 292 players at The Casino MK in Milton Keynes. But in the end that’s just what he did, a very nice pay day later, a trophy and the title of WPT National champion, we caught up with John for a few quick words.

blackchip1001) Dany Willis: Congratulations again on your impressive win John, so when did you get into playing poker?

John Gudger: Only since Christmas 2011!




2) DW: Wow and already a live event title under your belt that must feel great! So what kind of stakes and games do you normally play?

JG: Well anything upto $12 but now I’ve been playing $.25/.50 cash tables

JG: Ha ha…nope never get grumpy!



biggie4) DW: Alright well how would you describe your style?

JG: I guess I’m now a tight passive kind of player

JG: Easy it has to be ACES!



books6)DW:  So so true…okay how about “Do NOT wait until the last minute to ____________”

JG: Well of course that would be “buy in”



martini7) DW: And who would we find on your ipod?

JG: Led Zeppelin of course!



cards8) DW: With your poker, are you playing mainly online poker, live poker, or a mixture of both?

JG: I’d say online. You see Milton Keynes was actually my first ever Live Tournament in the United Kingdom!

JG: Helping my nephew with university costs.

JG: Sure Button all in SB called overshoved with KK. Small blind folded saying don’t be an ace. Ace on the river but beat button’s J10!!

JG: With Pink champagne and the organizers




12) DW: So any fool proof recipes for success at the tables?

JG: Yeah… don’t play every hand!
