In September, partypoker unveiled a brand new poker tour that would see the WPT National stop at five destinations in the United Kingdom. The first of those eagerly anticipated legs begins on Thursday 24 October at Aspers Westfield Statford City Casino in London and we cannot wait for the action to start.
The inaugural partypoker WPT National UK London festival showcases the unique accumulator format that should see the prize pool swell beyond what one would expect from a £200 buy-in event. This is because players can buy into as many of the three starting flights as they wish and any chips they are left with at the end of each flight are accumulated into one stack, which they then take through with them to Day 2!
For example, Player A enters all three flights and finishes each one with 5000, 6000 and 10000 chips respectively. This means Player A would start Day 2 with 21,000 chips (10000+6000+5000).
John Scanlon, Poker Manager at Aspers Casino Westfield Stratford City, explained the exciting Accumulator format: “The tournament is based on an innovative format from the Aussie Millions, where there was a big buzz amongst players about the best strategy to play. The structure is all about bringing more people into the game at various levels of buy-ins.”
partypoker WPT National UK: London Schedule
Date | Time | Tournament |
---|---|---|
Thursday 24 October | 8pm | WPT National UK London Flight 1 |
Friday 25 October | 2pm | WPT National UK London Flight 2 |
Friday 25 October | 8pm | WPT National UK London Flight 3 |
At a last count, more than 150 seats have been given away through the various online and live satellites and the number of playing buying directly increases daily. Among those who have signed up to play are Ian “The Razor” Frazer and the former World Series of Poker Main Event final table member James Akenhead. It is not often that you get to play against players of this calibre for a £200 outlay.
In addition to the Main Event, players will have the chance to take part in a number of side events over the weekend such as the WPTN Experience (£110 buy-in), a WPTN 8 Max Bounty (£80 buy-in) and the WPTN Turbo Charged Deepstack (£55 buy-in). These low buy-in tournaments allow players to experience the excitement of a WPT event for a fraction of the cost.
