The Cash Game Leaderboards continue to pay out vast sums of money as we approach our target of $1 million in March. Grinders from around the world are literally cashing in by playing their favourite cash games online at partypoker. We caught up a recent Cash Game Leaderboard champions and quizzed them about their impressive victories. This is what he had to say.
Belarus’ “Equal1zer” hails from Minsk and he playing poker is his main source of income. He started playing five or six years ago, progressing through the stakes before switching to tournament poker.
“I started playing NL2 cash games and made it to NL50 before taking a break for around two years. I started playing again around 18-months ago. Nowadays I mostly play $3 to $22 buy-in tournaments, but I sometimes play cash games.”
Most of the Cash Game Leaderboard winners we’ve spoken to so far say they increased their volume, realised they could win their respective leaderboard then ramped up their playing time even more. Equal1zer is different.
Equal1zer Only Had Winning On His Mind
“I had the goal of finishing in the number one spot. Any other result would not have been good enough for me. I started grinding from the first day to try and create a big gap between myself and my opponents. I guess you can say it all worked out.”
It did, indeed, work out with Equal1zer banking the $500 top prize from the $0.02/$0.05 No-Limit Hold’em leaderboard. To put his prize into context, the average monthly salary in Minsk was $490 in January 2020. It’s a terrific result for a week’s worth of grinding online.
Money aside, Equal1zer is a big fan of the Cash Game Leaderboard promotion because it adds a different dynamic to the weekly grind.
“I really like this promo because it makes the game more interesting. Poker becomes more of a competition. I probably wouldn’t change anything about the promotion, the one-week leaderboard seems like the perfect format to me.”
You can’t only rely on being able to play a lot of poker if you want to top a leaderboard. It’s necessary to improve your skills and become a better player all-round. Thankfully, modern-day poker players have a wealth of information at their fingertips to assist them in doing this.
“In our day we have endless information about how to play better poker, including a lot of free resources, video training sites etc. Also, you have to be prepared to work away from the tables by analysing your play with the tools available to you. This will help you become a better player.”
Congratulations to Equal1zer on his impressive victory. A quick check of the current leaderboard shows he is leading the $0.02/$0.05 leaderboard again this week. There are only 11 points separating him from “Ro4dToBrook3” in second-place so the race for the number one spot is truly on!
