June 10 saw the poker community come together and play in a charity tournament for a fantastic cause.
The Gambling Cabin and partypoker joined forces to raise money for two charities that fight against domestic violence and champion women’s rights. The Gambling Cabin pledged to match the charity tournament’s prize pool, partypoker donated $2,500, while players were invited to contribute to the causes via a Facebook crowdfunding page.
Some 277 players bought into the $11 progressive knockout tournament and created a $3,033 prize pool. Three and a half hours later, Dennis “MrFizh” Imrell was the last player standing and the recipient of more than $570.
Winning the tournament created a joyous feeling for the champion, but the prize money pails into insignificance when considering the exposure both the chosen charities gained across various social media platforms.
At the time of writing, the tournament has resulted in $5,533 raised online at partypoker and an additional £3,435 ($4,844) from the Facebook donations, which is an incredible result.
Charity Event Champion Chats to partypoker
partypoker caught up to the tournament’s champion; how did it feel to win such a prestigious tournament?
“There’s only one thing to say about that win — sätt dig ned! Jokes aside, it obviously feels very good to win a poker tournament, especially a charity tournament, but the coming together and love from the poker community is what should be highlighted.”
Indeed, Dennis. The poker community is fantastic at coming together and sharing the love. It is one of the reasons we love this game.
Although this was Dennis’ first charity tournament victory, it was not his first Gambling Cabin rodeo.
“I’ve been following The Gambling Cabin since the beginning of summer 2017, and I’m glad to be part of this community. This is not the first time they have organised fundraisers like this. Donating to important things is something I will continue to do, and so far, I have had the opportunity to do so at all their charity events.”
It is not only raising money for great causes that makes The Gambling Cabin popular with Dennis; it is also the way they go about their business, too.
“All the people behind The Gambling Cabin are incredibly humble and down to Earth even though they have achieved great success in their lives. I actually think that is one of the biggest reasons for their popularity in Sweden. I really hope you will collaborate again in the future.”
The Gambling Cabin is delighted with the support shown by partypoker players.
“We are extremely happy that so many people showed up during our charity stream against domestic violence. The tournament had 277 buy-ins on a warm summer’s day and we managed to collect 83866kr ($10,071) for a great cause. We would like to give a special thanks to our community, partypoker, and Louise Butler for making it a successful and fun event. We hope to see you all again in the future, have a great summer everyone.”
