Day 1b of the WPT Amneville Main Event saw 203 players enter the Seven Casino with high hopes but only 105 of them have survived with their chip stacks intact. The man who is sat proudly at the top of the chip counts is Jean-Francois Rigollet, who turned his 30,000 starting stack into 164,700, more than any player across both starting days.
Rigollet flew under the radar all day long, going about his business in a quiet, unassuming and extremely efficient manner. He will be looking for his fifth cash in a major live tournament here in Amneville and he will have to finish in ninth place or better if he is to beat his previous best score of $27,315 that he one earlier in the year when he came second in the $1,000 Wynn Classic in Las Vegas.
Our chipleader’s nearest rivals, in terms of chips, are Thibaud Durand (147,300) American Jamie Rosen (145,300) and Edouard Sadoun (125,500). Other notable players who made it through Day 1b include Arnaud Mattern (114,300), Marvin Rettenmaier (112,000) and Liv Boeree (36,500).
Tomorrow the 105 survivors from today will join up with the 113 from Day 1a meaning 218 players will return to the Seven Casino and by the time we have played out five 90-minute levels we will be closer to awarding some of the €1,164,288 prizepool.
