and Antonio Esfandiari called with pocket nines. There was 78,000 in the pot and the flop came down 
, Cates simply moved all-in for 101,000 and, after some contemplation, Esfandiari asked Cates if he’d heard of the Salvation Army and then made the call.
The 
turn opened up the possibility of a flush for Esfandiari and he duly made it on the 
river to send Cates home with the bagel. Asked if he’d have taken 18 points going into the last heat he said: “It’s not a good spot. I mean I got it in as a two to one favourite and lost,” that’s poker.
And on folding out of turn. “It’s just some little details that I’m not aware of, it’s my fault really it’s stupid to complain.” He’ll be back for the final Group A heat tomorrow evening and Jesse May said of his predicament. “In terms of the Premier League that’s a bit of a disaster for him, he’s not going to be in the relegation zone, but he might be out of the promotion zone and have some work to do.”
