Day 1e of the 2014 partypoker WPT500 UK was the busiest starting day yet in the £1 million guaranteed spectacular, attracting 374 entries in total. By the time the 14th 40-minute level was completed, only 95 players still had chips in front of them and none of them had more in their stacks than Dahe Liu.
During Day 1c, Luigi Viscomi somehow turned his 30,000 starting stack into a tournament-leading 522,000 and nobody, including myself, thought anyone would get near that total and any of the subsequent starting flights. While nobody has caught Viscomi, Liu came close, bagging up 408,500 chips at the close of play.
Liu has had some impressive cashes of late and has lifetime live tournament winnings of more than $61,000, a figure that is sure to grow by the time the prize money is awarded in this £500 buy-in event.
Another player who had an enjoyable day at the Dusk Till Dawn felt was Nick Holbrook who ended with 388,000 chips. We spoke to Holbrook after play ended and asked him how he managed to accumulate such an impressive stack. He informed us that they “always folded when I didn’t have it and called me down when I did.” That, friends, is a dangerous combination!
Among the 95 surviving players were big stacks Simon Brooks (356,000), Daniel Ward (324,000), Darren Jarvis (280,000),and Thomas High (249,000), plus the likes of Charles Chattha (247,000), Steve Watts (216,500), Ronan Gilligan (208,000), Eleanor Gudger (206,000), Haresh Thaker (197,000), Gareth Walker (171,500), Jon Spinks (141,500), Billy Chattaway (138,500), Buddy Villaluz (99,500), Kyriacos “Greek Jack” Dionysiou (93,500), Michael Kane (89,000), Ian Simpson (59,000), and James Browning (51,500).
Some of the less fortunate souls who crashed and burned during Day 1e proceedings included Kevin Allen, James Dempsey, Dave Shallow (twice) and American star David Peters.
