Talented German pro is the latest player to get his hands on the coveted WPT National trophy after he took down the star-studded WPT National Vienna Main Event at the Montesino Casino in the Austrian capital.
Frank was one of 375 players to exchanged €1,100 for the chance of becoming a WPT National champion and was among the chip leaders throughout the five day event. That fact shouldn’t be surprising when you consider Frank had $400,000 in live tournament winnings prior to the Vienna festivities so he certainly knows his way around a poker table.
Joining Frank in the quest for glory were such luminaries as our very own Kara Scott, “The Flying Dutchman” Marcel Luske, tournament circuit regular Ivo Donev, German Who Wants To Be A Millionaire winner Sebastian Langrock, one of the best tournament players in the world Ole Schemion, Michael Eiler, WPT Champions Club member Julian Thomas and Giacomo Fundaro and poker’s hottest – and most talented couple – Manig Loeser and his girlfriend Jamila von Perger.
Frank went into the eight-handed final table with a massive chip lead, his 3,705,000 stack containing more than twice that of his nearest rival Gereon Sowa, who happens to be a close friend of Frank.
It is quite fitting that Frank found himself heads-up against his friend, Sowa, for the €77,000 first place prize. Sowa, known as “huiiiiiiiiii” online, a phenomenal talent who is regarded as one of the best online poker tournament players in the world, proved a worth heads-up opponent to Frank, but in the end Frank was just too strong and he was crowned WPT National Vienna champion.
