01:03. Play is done for the day and Tyron Krost and Frederik Jensen are now through to the final 18 and are guaranteed at least $75,000 each. Party Poker congratulates both of them to an amazing achievement so far.
23:35. Party Poker qualifier Tyron Krost not only crippled the great Dane Gus Hansen he also finished the job and sent the legendary pro packing. Starting with going all in on the flop 2c 3c 8h with Jc Qc against Hansen’s pocket nines and managing to spike a J on the turn to severely cripple Hansen. 20 mins later he finished the job, calling Hansen’s all in with pocket nines. Hansen holding K 2 couldn’t get lucky on the board J 8 8 10 A and saw his chances of repeating his 2007 win vanish. Well done Krost! Tyron Krost and Frederik Jensen are now holding $920k and $1030k stacks. There are 20 players left and the field will be played down to 18 before we break for the day.
22:15. Christoph Urbach was fighting with a short stack the whole day but was finally forced to give up. It was a classic race between Urbach’s Ac Kh against pocket fours. First card out was a 4 crushing Urbach’s hopes of any further advancement. Amazingly this was his first real live poker tournament he played and managed to come in at 28th place out of 742 starting players. Congratulations Christoph, we expect to see more of you in the future.
18:53. After two massive pots Party Poker qualifier Frederik Jensen is now in the chip lead with $1,060,000. Stay tuned for more.
17:45. After a brave struggle Thomas Markussen found himself pre-flop all in with Ac Qc against pocket 8’s. His hopes for a double up was quickly put to rest when the first card out was a 8. The board ran out 8h 10d 5d, turn giving Markussen a glimmer of hope with the 9d having him drawing for a gutshot straight but another 10 on the river sealed his faith and send him to the rails on 51st place . We congratulate Thomas for a great tournament performance. Party Poker qualifiers Frederik Jensen, Christoph Urbach and Tyron Krost is still in fighting for the big bucks.
16:49. Playing his first ever big tournament Party Poker qualifier David Scherzer managed to cash $17,500. And it could have been more. After going up and down in the chip rankings David finally pushed with $80,000 when the blinds where $3000/$8000 getting a call from an almost equally shortstacked big blind. Scherzer holding A9 is a 60/40 favourite against big blinds K8. According to Scherzer “The biggest fish at the table, probably the tournament. Who in their right mind will call an all in with K8 for his tournament life?” The board ran out all in Scherzer’s favour until that dreaded K spiked on the river. Almost exactly at the same time another player went out on another table so close that they have to pay out $17,5k to each players instead of $15k and $20k. Shame on the bad beat but what an amazing performance from Scherzer playing his first ever big tournament. Christoph Urbach, Frederik Jensen, Thomas Markussen and Tyron Krost are still in fighting for the big prize.
14:52. The bubble has burst and at present we have a total of 68 players left. Congratulations to the Party Poker qualifiers Frederik Jensen, Thomas Markussen, David Scherzer, Tyron Krost that all made the money and are guranteed at least $15,000 for their efforts. Well done!
13:59. Day 3 started with 85 hopefuls all closing into the bubble that will kick in at 72th place. Bad news is that Party Poker qualifier Andreas Johansson almost immediately got knocked out. In a three way pot this is how the hand was played out:
Andreas was up against the winner of the $100k event Challenge Dan Shak and Peter Aristidou. On a flop Ac 8s 9c Aristidou checked and so did Andreas, Shak made it $20,000 and Aristidou called immediately followed by an all in from Andreas. Shak came over the top and also went all in pushing Aristidou out of the hand. The cards revealed that Andreas had Jh 10c for an open ended straight draw and a runner runner club flush draw. Bad news for Andreas was that Shak already had a made hand with his As 10d. The turn gave Andreas the 4c giving him more outs to the flush but the river card was a meaningless Js and Andreas had to head for the rails.
Party qualifiers that are still in:
Frederik Jensen $300,000
Thomas Markussen $120,000
Christoph Urbach $120,000
David Scherzer $100,000
- David Scherzer
Tyron Krost $55,000
Stay tuned for the next update after the bubble
