Antonio Esfandiari has progressed to Saturday’s final table after defeating Scott Seiver by two games to one in the Group A playoff.
After going one match down when his ace-jack lost to Seiver’s ace-jack suited, Esfandiari fought back to level the tie and then he dominated the deciding match and ran out a deserved winner — although he did need a touch of luck in the final hand.
Seiver had been whittled down to just 26,000 chips so it was no surprise at all that Esfandiari put his opponent all in when he saw he had in the hole. Seiver snap-called with a dominating pair of fours and was a favourite to double up. The flop kept Seiver in front, but the turn catapulted Esfandiari into the lead. Seiver needed an ace or four to win, any other card would see Esfandiari progress. The river was the and Seiver was eliminated.
Esfandiari will now join his Group A team mates Jungleman, Jonathan Duhamel and Sam Trickett along with those who progressed from Group B; the Group B playoff kicking off at 13:45GMT on Saturday.
