Andrew “Zeus” Kuster ensured the 2017 World Series of Poker Circuit Brazil Main Event title stayed on home soil after he created his own rags to riches story by going from a short stack to a WSOP champion.

Some 939 players bought into the partypoker-sponsored WSOP Circuit Brazil Main Event for R$3,300, each of them sharing a common goal of returning home as a WSOP champion and getting their hands on a coveted WSOP Circuit ring.
Several members of Team partypoker were among the crowd, including Sam Trickett, Bruno Gagliasso, Richard Dubini, Joao Simao and Kristen Bicknell. It was Bicknell who went the deepest of our amazing Team partypoker players, navigating her way through the shark infested waters to the nine-handed final table.
Kuster, who is better known by his nickname “Zeus” went into the final table with the third shortest stack, one containing enough chips to pay the big blind 15 times. Being short stacked didn’t faze Zeus because he revealed he spent the entire tournament with a similarly sized stack.
The final table started well for Zeus as he managed to triple his stack in a hand involving Rodrigo Alvarenga and Bruno Borges. Zeus held a pair of queens and they held against the ace-king of Borges and the king-queen of Alvarenga, the latter bust in ninth place.
Claudio Lorenzi fell in eighth place before our very own Bicknell fell in seventh-place. Bicknell, who already has two WSOP bracelets, was one of the more aggressive players at the final table, but after losing a few large pots in a row, saw her tournament come to an abrupt end.
The table remained six-handed for a while before Pedro Rodrigues was eliminated before Guti Camargo fell by the wayside when his pocket nines ran into the pair of jacks in the hand of Zeus.
Fourth-place went to the dangerous Borges who crashed out at the hands of the online grinder Renan Aziz, then Ezequiel Waigel saw his pocket kings cracked by Zeus’ queen-jack of diamonds courtesy of Zeus’ hand improving to a flush on the turn.
Zeus went into the heads-up battle with his friend Aziz trailing slightly in chips, but managed to turn matters around and ran out a worthy winner. Aziz was magnanimous in defeat, telling the blogging team he was happy with his play in the tournament but that Zeus “played very well and deserved to win.”
