1986 was the year the Ferris Bueller taught us all not to take life so seriously and the three words on everyone’s lips were Rock Me Amadeus. Meanwhile in Las Vegas though Berry Johnston had a couple of life objectives when it came to his number one passion in life – poker.
1. To make a living playing it.
Check. Since 1982 when Johnston placed 3rd at the WSOP, he has finished in the money 45 times, and accumulated over $2 Million in live tournament winnings.
2. To become a World Champion.
Ditto. Johnston (nicknamed ‘numbers’) became World Champion in 1986 and placed 3rd and 5th in the 1982 and 1990 World Series respectively. He is also a member of Poker’s Hall of Fame, being inducted in 2004:
The Great Poker Player…
Fellow Hall of Famer Doyle Brunson said of Johnston: “What I admire most about Berry is not Berry the great poker player, but Berry the man. He is a deeply religious and devoted family man, who has always been a gentleman at all times.” Indeed. Johnston is widely known as a gentleman at the tables, and a very well respected member of the poker fraternity.
