Day 9, the final day’s play, of the partypoker LIVE 2017 Caribbean Poker Party saw the $5,300 MILLIONS Main Event and the $5,300 MILLIONS Finale crown their champions. But who were they? Let’s find out in the last recap of this fantastic festival.
MILLIONS Main Event
Sam Greenwood capped off a stellar week in Punta Cana by winning the $5,300 MILLIONS Main Event for a cool $1 million. Greenwood had already finished third in the $10,300 MILLIONS High Roller and was the runner-up in the $25,500 Super High Roller so was already $366,850 to the good coming into the Main Event.
Twelve players returned for the fifth day of the Main Event and they were quickly reduced to 11 when Michael Malm’s pocket threes didn’t improve against Jonas Gjelstad’s tens.
Ruben Perceval then crashed out when his was outflopped by the of Udo Erlei before partypoker’s Jason Koon bust with against the of Gjelstad. Koon’s exit left only the unofficial nine-handed final table and play remained nine-handed for a while before Damian Lomza found and pushed all-in for almost 11 big blinds, only to discover Andrey Shatilov was laying in waiting with .
Dan Dizenzo was the first player to be eliminated from the official final table and he was followed to the rail by Udo Erlei, MILLIONS High Roller winner Preben Stokkan, and Brazil’s Felipe Ramos.
Shortly after the start of the 35th level, Jiri Horak’s lost to the in the hand of Shatilov and heads-up was set when Gjelstad shoved 15 big blinds with and Greenwood called with the dominating . Neither player improved by the river, Greenwood’s jack-kicker came into play and Gjelstad bust in third-place.
After almost three hours of heads-up play, Greenwood emerged victorious. With the blinds at 6,000,000/12,000,000, Greenwood raised to 24,000,000 and Shatliov called. A flop reading saw Shatilov check-called a 20,000,000 continuation bet. The turn was the and Shatilov checked. Greenwood bet 100,000,000 and snap-called when Shatilov check-raised all-in for 362,000,000.

MILLIONS Finale: Adrian Mateos Takes Down the Tournament
Twenty-six players sat down for the final day of the $5,300 MILLIONS Finale and by the time the last hand was dealt, only Adrian Mateos had chips in front of him.
Only 23 players were paid and it was one of our own who burst the bubble. Team partypoker’s Anatoly Filatov and Kristen Bicknell clashed in a hand where Bicknell held and Filatov the . A king on the flop left Bicknell drawing thin and she couldn’t find any of her outs.
Aleksejs Meless and George Richard Tatalovich bust before partypoker’s Roberto Romanello fell in 21st place. Some big names also crashed out, including Chris Hunichen, Conor Beresford, Tony Cousineau, Barny Boatman, and Dylan Linde.
Each of the eight-players at the final table was guaranteed $35,000 and this is the sum that James Walker got his hands on when his ace-seven lost to Mateos’ ace-nine. Walker was followed to the sidelines by Bartlomiej Machon and Marc-Oliver Carpentier-Perrault before Mateos came from behind with to cracked the of the dangerous Manig Loeser.
Fourth-place went to the partypoker’s Head of Poker Tom Waters. Mateos opened to 2,200,000 on the button, Waters three-bet all-in for 15,00,000 in the small blind, Filatov called in the big blind before Mateos folded. Waters held and Filatov . Both players improved to a flush on the board, but Waters exited and banked $85,500.
An hour later, Kenny Hallaert fell in third-place to leave partypoker’s Filatov take on Mateos heads-up for the title. The chip lead exchanged hands several times but then Mateos managed to get a grip on things and began pulling away from the partypoker pro. The final hand saw Filatov move all-in with and Mateos call with . The dealer spread the board, Filatov bust and Mateos won yet another major tournament.
