The eighth day of the partypoker 2017 Caribbean Poker Party saw the $5,300 MILLIONS Main Event reduced to only 12 players, while the $5,300 MILLIONS Finale had its field whittled down to 26 players.

MILLIONS Main Event

Canada’s Sam Greenwood is the man in control of the Main Event having ended Day 4 of the $5 million guaranteed tournament with 193,900,000 chips, almost 80 million more than his nearest rival.

It has been a profitable trip to Punta Cana for Greenwood because he finished third in the $10,300 High Roller for $124,100 and was the runner-up in the $25,500 Super High Roller for an additional $242,750. Now, Greenwood has the chance to get his hands on a seven-figure score, which would round of his trip perfectly.

Eleven players stand between Greenwood and glory, one of them being the partypoker patch sporting Jason Koon. The 93,800,000 chips in Koon’s stack are enough to see him return to the tables in fifth-place, nicely poised to reach the final table, and once that is reached, who knows where Koon could finish.

Sadly, Day 4 of the MILLIONS Main Event was the last time we will see our other members of Team partypoker. Joao Simao crashed out in 38th place for $27,500 and Richard Dubini bust in 30th place for $30,000. partypoker Chairman and all-round poker legend Mike Sexton fell in 24th place for $34,000, which is the same sum that Charlie Godwin received for her incredible 19th place finish.

The final 12 players return to their seats at 12:00 p.m. local time and play will continue until the eight-handed final table is reached. Play will then resume at the final table at 4:00 p.m. local time and will be live streamed, on a 30-minute delay, on the partypoker Twitch channel.

While the MILLIONS Main Event was in play, the MILLIONS Finale was also marching towards a conclusion and now only 26 players remain in the hunt for the $250,000 first place prize.

One of those returnees is the partypoker Head of Poker Tom Waters who has a healthy stack of 15,700,000 chips, enough for second place on the leaderboard. There is no doubt that Waters will have plenty of support both in Punta Cana and back home.

Waters will be joined on the final day’s play by Team partypoker members Anatoly Filatov (7,900,000), Roberto Romanello (5,900,000), and Kristen Bicknell (2,550,000)

Leading the final 26 back into battle is Moldova’s Pavel Plesuv with 21,950,000 chips. Plesuv has more than $1.4 million in live tournament cashes and will be a difficult opponent to push from top spot now that he has a big stack at his disposal.
