Fallsview Casino Resort in beautiful Niagara Falls Ontario joined forces once again with the World Poker Tour to host the 2014 Fallsview Poker  Classic WPT and the results were almost as spectacular as the scenery outside the casino. And inside the casino, there were Royal Flush girls, Vince Van Patten, Tony Dunst (who recently won the World Poker Tour Caribbean Main Event For $145,000), and some killer poker.

Main Event Numbers Smashed!

As the main event got underway on Saturday, the final numbers for the total players for the three events was cause for some celebration in the ballroom of the casino. 1610 players made their way into the three events, smashing the previous record of just over 1200 .

Sold Out!

The first event, an $1100 buy-in, was not unlike a Bruce Springsteen concert in New Jersey: SOLD RIGHT OUT.  That created a great payday for the eventual winner, the red hot Mike ‘GoLeafsGo’ Leah, who took first for $118,982, a home turf win for the Canadian pro.

Smells Like Syrup

Event #2, the $2500 buy-in was also a big field, with 578 players battling for the win. Another pro, Pratyush Buddiga, came out on top, and he received a healthy $243,714 in Canadian dollars. And yes, if you scratch Canadian money it DOES smell like maple syrup. And for Prat, it also smells like victory.

First Prize Looking Pretty Sweet…

The Main Event was the big ticket, though, and 383 players coughed up the $5K buy-in to take a shot at the $363,197 first prize. The field is littered with big names like Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald, Shannon Shorr, Vanessa Selbst, and the already richer Mike Leah. And, as always, a great group of players who qualified on partypoker are in the mix, including players who made their way from poker’s newest hotbed, New Jersey. It certainly was a triumphant return to Niagara for the World Poker Tour, and it looks like it’s going to continue. There were many rumours floating of even bigger things for next year, and talk of even further improvements to an already successful event.

In the vernacular of the famous comedy sketch: “Niagara Falls: Slowly, I turn: Step by step”. Or in the case of the WPT, RE-turn…
