The word legend is one of the most overused in poker circles. Very few poker players are deserving of such a title, but one man who epitomises the definition of being a legend is the late Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott.

Devilfish passed away in April 2015 after a battle with cancer, leaving behind his wife Anpaktita, and his eight children Kerry, Lucy, Paul, David, Chris, Steven, Mike, and Matthew. The sad news spread to all corners of the globe within minutes of it becoming public, with members of the poker community sharing their favourite Devilfish stories.

Now fans of the Devilfish have a chance to honour him in the way he would have wanted to be remembered, by playing in a high stakes poker tournament at Dusk Till Dawn.

The Devilfish Cup begins on Monday 31 October, 2016, and features a guaranteed prize pool of £1 million. Entry is £5,000 plus a £300 donation, and all donations, plus three percent of the prize pool, is to be collected and split between the Marie Curie charity, and a trust fund for Devilfish’s daughter, Lucy, which she will receive on her 16th birthday.

Whoever takes down this prestigious event receives the tournament’s top prize, and a special trophy presented by Anpaktita Ulliott, Devilfish’s wife.

“Rob Yong, owner of Dusk Till Dawn, announced after Dave’s funeral that we would wait a while before announcing plans to honor him,” said Simon Trumper, Dusk Till Dawn Club Director and friend of Ulliott. “During his last few days, Rob visited Dave and asked him how he wanted to be remembered. He asked us to hold a high buy-in event at the club, as Dave was always proud of his WPT Tunica win. We thought it fitting to replace this year’s High Roller with the Devilfish Cup. World Poker Tour and WPT Foundation have been great and it is a pleasure to be working with them on this inaugural event.”

This tournament is being made possible by the coming together of the WPT Foundation, Dusk Till Dawn, and partypoker. The WPT Foundation helps raise money for charities, and has raised more than $6 million since its creation.

Adam Pliska, President and CEO of the WPT, added, “We are proud to announce the Devilfish Cup for the partypoker WPT UK festival at Dusk Till Dawn, and to honor and celebrate Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott alongside his family, friends, and fellow competitors. As a testament to the community’s dedication and contributions, WPT Foundation has helped raise more than $6 million to date, and we look forward to supporting another non-profit program of excellence in Marie Curie.”

Devilfish

Poker aside, another of Devilfish’s favourite pastimes were enjoying a drink with his friends and family, and entertaining the masses with his often cutting sense of humour, and remarkably good music skills.

To honour Devilfish further, the bar at DTD is to be renamed “The Devilfish” as is Devilfish’s favourite drink, a double vodka with Red Bull!

Partypoker players will have the chance to win their seat in the inaugural Devilfish Cup, along with the WPT UK festival Main Event online at partypoker in the coming weeks, so keep checking the Live Events lobby in the partypoker tournament lobby.
