The latest edition of the partypoker Monster Series shuffles up and deals on July 29th with the first of 171 tournaments, so what better way to build up to the $2 million guaranteed series than by looking at six monsters who the partypoker blog thinks could become Monster Series champions.
Frankenstein
Frankenstein, or Frankenstein’s Monster to give him his full title, was created by Mary Shelley in 1818 and he would be an imposing player at the table, one with immense presence tanks to standing eight-feet tall.
This monster is, according to Shelley, a sensitive and emotional creature who just wants to be accepted. He is also very articulate managed to learn how to read and write in English and German within 11 months of Victor Frankenstein creating him.
Frankenstein would likely be quite methodical, just don’t blank him at the poker table because he has been known to enter a rage when society rejects him.
Cousin Itt
Poker players often spend a lot of time trying to perfect their poker face as to not give away any tells at the table. One player who would never have to do this is Cousin Itt of Addams Family Fame.
His floor-length hair is a natural mask so Cousin Itt would be impossible to get a facial read from. A major downside would be when it came to verbally confirming his action because he speaks complete gibberish and would fall foul of the English only at the tables rule.
King Kong
King Kong terrorizes Fay Wray in the classic monster movie, playing through Sunday at the Rosebud Movie Palace.
It goes without saying that the best poker players in the world often play the most aggressive style of poker. Not only does this make them difficult to read at the tables, especially when it comes to trying to accurately put them on a hand, it also means they can win more than their fair share of pots without having to go to showdown.
There are fewer monsters more aggressive than King Kong, if you could fit his 40-foot frame near a table or behind a computer. His major weaknesses would be the fact he is not the most intelligent of creatures plus he has severe tilt issues and is likely to throw the poker table across the room at some point.
Dracula
Stamina is important when it comes to poker tournaments, being able to stay focussed for long periods of time and make decisions while potentially tired can separate the elite poker players from one who is just average.
It’s a good thing that Dracula is undead then because he never gets tired and that is a huge advantage. Another is that he can shapeshift and he can also hypnotically influence people who he bites but does not kill, meaning he could, in theory at least, gain control over your mind and make you fold a monster hand, pardon the pun.
Dracula’s major weakness is that he cannot use his abilities during the daytime so it’s probably best to play in the Monster Series tournaments that start earlier in the day otherwise you run the risk of bumping into our old buddy Dracula.
You can also combat him with religious symbols, keep him at bay with garlic, which he is repulsed by, and if you find where he sleeps, put a wild rose on his coffin lid and he’ll be unable to escape and take to the partypoker tables.
Godzilla
Another potential poker-playing Monsster would be Godzilla, although maybe not in the same game King Kong was playing in seeing how they had an epic battle in King Kong vs Godzilla.
Godzilla doesn’t actually mind humans, so that’s good news for us, but if you get him angry, something that happens regularly, he may blast you with his atomic breath and that’s not going to be good for anyone.
Apart from being 50 meters tall, his other major hindrance would be his tilt control, but we’ll let you tell him that.
Randall Boggs
Not all monsters are scary, although Randall Boggs from Monsters Inc. thinks he is. Cunning and sneaky are great characteristics to have in a poker player, but it is Boggs’ ability to perfectly blend into his surroundings, often looking invisible, that would be his greatest strength as he could sneak up behind you and peek at your cards!
Monster Series Starts July 29th
The latest edition of Monster Series hits partypoker on July 29th and runs through to August 6th, during which time 171 tournaments will take place. There is more than $2 million guaranteed to be won despite the buy-ins of the tournament starting as low as $1.50 and increasing to only $33.
