The 2018/19 Premier League season kicks off for the first time on Friday 10th August when Manchester United play host to Leicester City at Old Trafford. Premier League betting is available at partybets, so we thought we’d pick the brains of our football-loving pros to see how they see this season panning out.
Who Will Win the 2018/19 Premier League?
Sam Trickett, a massive Manchester United fan, believes that fierce rivals Manchester City will win back-to-back Premier League titles, while Roberto Romanello thinks it is finally Liverpool’s year (isn’t it every year?)
Patrick Leonard shares the same views as Sam stating, “History dictates that the winner performs poorly in year two but I think Pep is a level above and will win again. An outside shot is Arsenal and I’ll bet on them each way. Most of their team wasn’t at the World Cup, they have a new manager, fresh and dangerous players and finally a striker who will score a lot of goals.”
Irish legend Padraig Parkinson is another poker player wanting Arsenal to do well, even if it is only because he has placed a bet on them to lift the Premier League trophy.
“Heart says Manchester United if Jose Mourinho lets them. Head says Manchester City. Pocket says Arsenal, way overpriced and worth an each way bet.”
Who Will be the 2018/19 Premier League Runner-Up?
Patrick believes Liverpool will come up short of winning the title but will finish in second-place this season. “Liverpool will push very hard and have a big squad now, but Jurgen Klopp is very good at falling at the last hurdle.”
Sam shares Patrick’s sentiments while Roberto thinks it will be Manchester City finishing one place below Liverpool when the teams complete their 38th game.
Which Team Will Qualify for the Champions League?
Everyone knows teams will be going all out to finish in the top four finishing positions and, therefore, qualify for the Champions League next season.
Most of our pros think the top four will be the same with all saying Manchester City and Liverpool will be up there and everyone apart from Sam thinking Arsenal will return to the Champions League fray; Sam believe Arsenal will miss out and Tottenham Hotspur will take their place.
Who Will be Relegated During the 2018/19 Premier League Season?
Nobody wants to see their team relegated to The Championship, but the nature of the beast means three teams will face the dreaded drop.
Patrick thinks it could be a long, arduous season for his beloved Newcastle United. “I don’t know much about the new teams, but Cardiff’s squad looks weak. Fulham have very few players and unfortunately Newcastle’s recruitment has been really poor. Newcastle are 6/1 to be relegated, not a bad bet at all.
Both Padraig and Sam think Huddersfield Town will finally run out of luck with Roberto predicting Leicester City’s run in the top flight will come to an end.
Who Will be the Most Improved Team?
Padraig’s fondness of Arsenal shines through here as he says they have been underachieving for years. Each of our pros have predicted different teams for improvement: Sam has gone with Burnley, Roberto with Everton and Patrick with Chelsea because of their new manager and style of play.
Which Newly Promoted Team Will be the Best? Will They Stay Up?
Fulham are the best equipped team to stay up this season according to Padraig with Patrick and Roberto opting to choose Wolverhampton Wanderers. Only Sam believes Cardiff City have what it takes to retain their Premier League status for another season.
Who Will Win the 2018/19 Premier League Golden Boot?
Everyone loves to see goals being scored. There are fewer things more enjoyable in sport than seeing the net bulging and the striker wheeling away to celebrate. The top scorer market is one of the most popular before and during the season, but who will our pros be betting on?
Surprisingly, nobody has gone for last year’s Golden Boot winner Mo Salah, perhaps he was a one season wonder? Instead, Sam and Roberto think Harry Kane will score the most goals. Patrick is opting for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Arsenal or Sergio Aguero of Manchester City, but only if the latter gets plenty of game time. “Aguero is a great bet at around 8/1 especially each way (top five at 2/1) as he has been in the top scorers for the last five seasons.”
Who Will be the Biggest Disappointment This Season?
Finally, who do our pros think will be the most disappointing team or player this season? Roberto does not believe that either Eden Hazard of his Chelsea team mates will be any cop this season, while Padraig says Tottenham Hotspur are a two man team and that Harry Kane looks jaded.
Sam shares the same views as Roberto, but Patrick reckons Manchester United will disappoint.
“They have a boring manager, teams around them will overtake them and the fans will turn on him, making it very ugly.”
