The second and final starting flight of the 2014 partypoker WPT National Prague Main Event was a far busier affair than Day 1a, with 183 players exchanging €2,000 for 30,000 chips and the chance to become a WPT National champion.
By the time eight levels were completed, the dream was over for 82 of those hopefuls and it was Nikolay Tsanev who bagged up the most chips of the 101 survivors.
Bulgaria’s Tsanev shot into the chip lead during the final level of the night when his improved to a straight on the river of a board to crack the of his opponent. Tsanev has a couple of cashes in Prague-based tournaments and now looks set to add another to his CV by the time this event is done and dusted.
Joining Tsanev at the top of the Day 1b chip counts were players such as Oliver Heidel (169,700 and Fahredin Mustafov (160,000). The latter was responsible for the elimination of American superstar Bryn Kenney during the penultimate level of the night. Mustafov three-bet an opening raise to 2,900 and Kenney four-bet to 6,725 from the button. Mustafov responded with a five-bet to 12,000 and then called when Kenney jammed all-in for 36,000 in total.
Kenney flipped over and was a substantial favourite against Mustafov’s [9h9c]. The flop kept Kenney’s queens as the best hand, but the turn gave Mustafov four addition outs to an inside straight. One of that quartet of outs hit on the river when the peeled off, gifting Mustafov an unlikely straight and to send Kenney to the rail.
Other notable players to progress include David Vamplew (148,500), World Series of Poker bracelet winner Simeon Naydenov (121,100), Andrew Hulme (104,700), Maxim Panyak (94,500), WPT National Marbella winner Steve Watts (69,000), Jason Wheeler (55,500), Ben Dobson (50,000), Steve O’Dwyer (45,100), Jack Salter (23,900), Kevin MacPhee (22,100), Maxim Lykov (11,900) and Ari Engel (10,900).
