Do you believe in beginner’s luck or do you think it is a fallacy? One player who we think could be a believer is Ian Laird, our latest Meet The People subject, who only signed up to partypoker six weeks ago and on the sixth week secured a $6,000 package to Las Vegas.
While Ian may be new to partypoker, he is somewhat of a veteran in the poker world having played this crazy game for the best part of 25-years. After cutting his teeth in home games, Ian progressed to playing cards in casinos before venturing into the world of online poker. Now he’s heading to the place affectionately known as “Sin City” to compete in the $2 million guaranteed WPT500 Aria with a whole host of other partypoker qualifiers and his partner, Tanya.
“I have decided to bring my partner, Tanya, with me. She’s a novice poker player but it is more than my life is worth if I didn’t bring her!”
As you can see, Ian is in great spirits and looking forward to jetting off to Las Vegas armed with his Kings of Vegas package. It won’t be the first time Ian’s visited the poker Mecca, but he “still thinks it is a magical place.”
And he’s right, Las Vegas is magical, there’s no other place in the world like it. It is simple: if you play poker, you have to jet off to Las Vegas at some point in your life and see the magic for yourself.
Having contacted Ian about his win, which he said didn’t sink in until the day after he secured the package, it seems he is excited to be playing for what will be a life-changing sum of money.
“I am very excited to play in a big tournament. It’s much more of a thrill when you know there’s a chance to win something big, and there is always a chance. I just hope to enjoy the whole thing, not only the poker side of things. We’re already winners so anything else is a bonus.”
We’ll be keeping an eye on Ian and Tanya’s efforts in the WPT500 Aria and the other Kings of Vegas champions. Nothing would make us happier than seeing a partypoker player return home with the coveted WPT500 trophy and a suitcase stuffed full of $100 bills!
