Twitch TV partypokerTV is Live Now - Watch live on Twitch

This week’s Meet The People segment sees us chat to 24-year old Danny Hammonds who calls Ellesmere Port home. If you’ve never been to Ellesmere Port, there’s a chance you’ve heard of it because it is where the Blue Planet Aquarium, National Waterways Museum and Vauxhall Motors factory are based, and of course, where Danny hails from.

Danny has been playing poker for around 10-years, first discovering the game by playing for play chips with his friends and a £0.50 game on the weekends with family members. After catching the poker bug and discovering he had a knack for the game, Danny starting playing online at Zynga Poker on Facebook where he excelled.

“I found myself in the top 50 biggest stacks in the world,” explains Danny, “My friends told me to give some real money poker a try, so I started playing in freerolls and found myself winning those on a regular basis.”

A former cash game specialist, Danny has recently switched to multi table tournaments thanks in part to the “value of live events on partypoker” where he has called home for the past few months. Although humble and stating that he’s not really achieved much from poker, Danny says “I have found a hobby that helps me wind down around work hours, which is beneficial as I enjoy a balanced lifestyle.”

Should Danny go on a tear and help himself to a big score – we think one can’t be too far away – he plans to use his profit to head to the gambling capital of the world, Las Vegas.

“I have a few friends who are full time professional poker players and go to Las Vegas every year. I’m yet to go to Vegas, so this is my long term goal.”

One way that Danny plans to do this is through following proper bankroll management, something he neglected to do in the early days of his career, and something that is one of his three tips for continued success in poker. His other two tips are continue studying the game in order to improve and don’t play if you’re not enjoying it. Solid tips, indeed.

A good way to improve your game and learn more about poker is to watch players who are better than you, something Danny often does by logging in and watching the likes of Doug Polk and Ben Sulsky grind the high stakes cash games, although he says he admires how Toom Dwan and Viktor Blom play a fearless style of poker that results in every pot seemingly being huge!
