The Grand’s title is in New Zealand for the next week thanks to Joshua McCully taking down the March 13 edition of the $1,050 buy-in event. McCully, a regular in our highest buy-in tournaments, walked away with $35,254 for his impressive victory.
Some 150 players bought into this week’s The Grand, and the top 223 finishers shared the $150,000 prize pool. Spare a thought for Jan Bednar who fell in 24th place and burst the money bubble. A min-cash weighed in at $2,255 but the prize money increased to $3,867 by the time the nine-handed final table was set.
Patrick Hyllegaard’s time at the final table was limited because the Danish star was the first player heading for the exits. Aleksejs Meless and Andrea Radichhi joined Hyllegaard on the rail, doing so with $4,693 and $5,548 payouts to keep them company.
Sixth-place and $6,590 went to David Cowling before Patrick Lauber ran out of steam in fifth, which came with a prize weighing in at $8,272. That was the last four-figure sum awarded by The Grand.
Mexico-based Lithuanian Gediminas Uselis saw his deep run end in a fourth-place finish worth $11,199, and heads-up was set when Aleksejs Ponakovs crashed out in third for $15,900.
Ponakovs’ exit left Joao Vieira heads-up against McCully in a one-on-one battle for the lion’s share of the prize pool. The fight went McCully’s way and he collected $35,254, resigning Vieira to a $23,241 consolation prize.

Play In The Grand For Only $0.01
The Grand commands a $1,050 buy-in, which places it out of the reach of many partypoker players. However, it is possible to win your way into The Grand from a single cent thanks to our centrolls and phased satellites.
The Grand Centrolls run several times per day and aware between five and ten $2.20 tickets to The Grand Phase 1 satellites. Make it though these to reach the $22 buy-in Phase 2, before fighting it out in the $109 Phase 3 satellites. Buy into any stage you wish or that your bankroll allows, but think of how cool it would be to turn $0.01 into a shot at a $150,000 guaranteed prize pool!
