Mike SextonTo a professional poker player, winning the $50k buy-in Players Championship at the WSOP is as good as it gets.

You play multiple games (8) against a very strong lineup (Who puts up $50k to play a poker tourney that isn’t an excellent player?) and winning this tournament is very prestigious.

As of this writing, the final table of eight was just assembled, and Phil Hellmuth and Ben Lamb – the guys running 1-2 in the WSOP Player of the Year race – are there!

Although I like him, but don’t like his antics at times, I really respect Phil’s game and would like to see him capture his 12th WSOP bracelet (as he brings a lot of attention to the poker world).

Personally, I had a pretty good WSOP. So far, I’ve played in seven events (including the $50k Players Championship – where I bombed out at the end of Day 2), and have had two cashes (for $160k), including a second place finish in a $1500 buy-in Stud 8 or Better tourney (606 entries).

Everyone wants to win a bracelet, but the truth is, when you cash for over $100k at the WSOP, you should be happy and have no right to bitch. Trust me, it’s not easy making money at the WSOP.

Next up for me is the main event, which I’m looking forward to. I don’t play until Day 1D, so lots of people will bust out before I do :) My over/under for the main event is 5200 players. Best of luck to all the PartyPoker qualifiers in making it to the final table!
